License Plate Mounted Park Distance Control?
I'm considering a 2010 leftover E90 M3. It has everything I want except for Park Distance Control. I have PDC on my current 335 and have really gotten used to it.
On the BMWUSA webiste I see a License Plate Mounted Park Distance Control Kit accessory for the 335, but I don't see it for the M3. Does anyone know why this would be? I'm trying to work the license plate PDC in as part of my deal... Thanks! |

Go for the rear camera.
I wouldn't do the license plate mounted PDC. I considered it when I had a 335 & was told by the dealer it was junk. Without a doubt, go for the rear camera.

i hate the little PDC "warts" on the bumper so i intentionally skipped that option. my solution now was to have ModMyNav.com's (MentholGuy) front and rear cam. the backup cam is awesome and has guides. the front cam allows me to see the curbs in front of me, i don't have to worry about curbing my car.

I have license plate mounted PDC kit on my M3. It's the same thing in the 3er catalog and works pretty decent (for the price).
Basically, it has 2 sensors to help you park and makes beeping noise (slow to faster depends on the distance) when reverse. It has nothing to do with iDrive screen. Kit is 100 bucks and installation isn't that hard so it's bang for the bucks but can't beat the camera kits. I'm actually thinking about getting Camera kit along with my plate PDC sensor. But I understand your point to get that thing as a part of the deal. It's good enough kit. It helps me park on the street for sure. So if you don't have to pay for it, go get it. But if you have to pay for it, then save more money and get the camera kit.

It's not going to save you from small sharp objects but it makes your life so much easier when you parallel park with the beeps. But beeps are not that loud so you'll need to turn down your music volume if you're blasting music.

PDC issue, a little off topic though, In 2004 when I bought my E60 530i, it had the PDC. Not sure if there was a glitch in the system but, I had some idiot tailing me so close at 125mph on the autobahn that the PDC warning screen popped up!!!! Dealer said that wasn't supposed to happen........ doesn't change the fact that it did. Hope I dont have that same issue with the M3. Then again, I think I can just about outrun anyone that could get that close.
