So what if it's a girly car? One of the girliest cars all time was a car that will forever be known as a great track car.

Stop caring about what strangers think about your car. You didn't buy it for them, did you? You didn't buy it to be viewed as more manly by them, did you?

James Bond drove a Z8, not a Z3... and yes, the z8 surely is a manly man car.

I also wouldn't mind driving a z4... and whoever wants to call it a girly car - go right ahead.

It's what you make of it... I guess this would have to be a girly car as well.

Girly car? I didn't know the Z4 was a girly car. Even if I did hear about it, I'd still buy my Z.

Going back to the E89 being designed by women for women, there may be some truth to that the lines of the E89 are more appealing to women. My wife loves the look of the E89 and didn't want me to buy my car (an '08 purchased CPO). She wanted me to buy the E89. Even if people were to tell me it is girly (especially with the white color), I'd still buy it. I've always wanted a convertible. But my next car after this one is paid off will be an M3.

So where did this stereotype come from??
The new Z4 is much less of a girly car. The styling is more aggressive than previous gen.

Most girly bmw is the 1-series.

It's because it's meant for a girl. You might as well be driving a Pontiac Slowstice, Mazda miata, or Vw bug...

Buy the z8 otherwise u r screaming to the world, "look at my small...."

The z4 are cool cars but u must be over 50, overweight, and over compensating...

Get a z8, m6, m3, 335 or even 328 convertible...before swinging for the other team..

Why worry what others think?!

If you like your car then good for you, that's all that matters.

I actually wouldn't mind getting a Z4 35is to carry me over from my current E92 M3 until the new M3/M4 comes out.

There is no doubt that the z4 has a feminine influence. When I think z4 I think older guy or a woman of any age. With that said, I think they would be fun to drive.

Lastly, who cares what others think, drive that thing and enjoy it!

If you think you get a lot of girl car comments about a Z4, try driving a miata for 2 years like I did. Once you take them for a ride and do a sideways drift up a highway entrance ramp they usually shut up.

They=girls?

A lot of MINI/Coopers overhere and 9 out of 10 times a (more or less cute) girl driving that thing. Can you define a MINI as a girly car?

The definition of girly car, I don't get it. I love Miatas. I like the Z4(M) and M Roadster/S2000/Elise/Exige as well.

I think if you can associate the word 'cute' with the car then maybe it can be viewed as girlie.

A mini-pooper can be cute, a z4 can be cute so can a miata. Females in my family have referred to the z4 and miata as cute, I can only assume many would as well.

I do think most people dont think of that on the forefront and anyone who drives one and is sensitive about it being feminine is thinking a bit too hard about percieved image.

They as in guys i work with. I honestly never got any comments from girls about the "manliness" of my old miata.

I drove miatas for years, now I drive an Elise, and my wife drives a Z4 (in reality I drive them both, as she would rather ride than drive.)...If you care what other people think, you'll never be happy....accept it now.

I'm 30, 5'9" 160lbs so I guess that leaves overcompensating?

These days my Z4 mainly sees track duty but I originally bought it thinking, "damn this is one good looking car, handles great and it's not as common as the m3, 335 or even 328 convertible." Actually in my area, it's the douchy kids driving the cars just mentioned who are stoplight racing at every opportunity against a civic or some other econobox that has no chance - that's what I call overcompensating.

OP - anyone giving you cr@p about your car is the one that's got issues. To define your "manhood" by the type of car you drive is not only immature but makes you wonder how that person perceives his/her own self value. And to agree with them only puts you in their territory. Seriously don't sweat it.
