I F#*@in Hate Brake Dust

Anyone have a tip on preventing brake dust coating your rims from that first drive after washing your car? I always end up with that nasty orange dusting in the barrels once the pads shine up the rotors again. Car is still perfect but the rims look like shit. Hate it! Thanks in advance.

I feel you...that's why I simply cut a hole in the floor and went Fred Flintstone style...no more brake dust...but they don't warn you about blisters...

there are spray-on coatings you can apply once you clean your wheels, but they aren't that great. i have found products for that purpose aren't worth the money/time. wheels are just going to get dirty.

I can attest to this.

I had my first set of Volks ceramic coated.....yeah....no it would have helped if I washed my car every week (fuck that noise) but I don't. I wash my car once a month so the brake dust accumulates anyway.

What I like to do after a wash is drive around my block super slow so I have a couple opportunities to sweep the rotors. This should help prevent that orange oxidation layer from forming.

Say what? I'm assuming you meant trunk monkey but the clown midget hookers reside in the trunk and they're too busy to throw out anything...
Hope this helps!

This bottle cost $20 + shipping and it only for couple of applications

Not worth it.

I find the best solution is to keep a towel in trunk and after every drive, wipe it down. It works best.

Ceramic pads create a lighter colored dust that's less noticeable at a quick glance, but the quantity of dust is still the same. Akebono ceramics are a popular choice.

Sonax polymer netshield is also available in the US .
A couple applications ? Excuse me my friend...I've done three entire cars with one bottle .
After the treatment with the Sonax the brake dust is not sticky on wheels , I even noticed that the brake dust flew off my wheels with the wind while driving.
To clean my wheels with the Sonax on it...It takes only 1/2 from the time from before the treatment .

My Sonax treatment was like...
1- Wash the wheels with Wolfgang Auto Bathe shampoo
2- Clay bar the wheels with Meguiars
3- Polish the wheels with Meguiars 2 X
4- 2 layers of Sonax with 24 hours between the layers

The treatment on my wheels alone toke 2 days and my knees were fucked up .
But it was worth the pain in the ass...

Not worth it.

I find the best solution is to keep a towel in trunk and after every drive, wipe it down. It works best.
It does not only have a few applications. You can cover MULTIPLE cars with one bottle. It's meant to be used on paint primarily so if you use it on your wheels you would even get MORE applications out of it.

It is 100% worth it. It is priced very fairly for such a high grade product. Among the detailing community it is considered one of the best paint sealants due to its beading capabilities and durability against the elements.

You found the best solution was to keep a towel in your trunk and wipe down every time after every drive? Well your best solution is deemed as probably one of the worst solutions and biggest wastes of time (no disrespect) to most people who know anything about detailing. Why you may ask? Let's start:

1) You are using the same towel every time most likely, which means dirt has built up on your towel and you are just mixing that into your wheels along with the brake dust that is already there. Welcome to inducing swirls into the finish of your wheels. You might not care, but your "best" solution is clearly not the best when you are inflicting damage to your own property.

2) By properly prepping your wheels and applying a sealant or even better a wheel coating you are actually saving yourself time and physical pain. Sealants/coatings will actually keep your wheels clean much longer and when you do go to clean them the cleaning process is much easier. Only soap and water are usually required to get a clean looking wheel once again. So by wiping it down EVERY TIME after EVERY DRIVE I will just go ahead and assume your method will not only take more time, but it will just mess up your knees/back/shoulders/arms/mental health.

3) That's all I got for now, but if you want more this kitchen is open all day.

Fun fact: Sonax actually created a dedicated wheel sealant now due to the fact that sonax polymer net shield (the product in question of this debate) was working well for so many people and they realized they could use it on their wheels as well with fantastic results.

So what have we learned here? Your method was not the best solution and you have offered advice to forum members and future readers of this thread information that is inaccurate and just plain wrong.

For anyone wondering why I took three minutes and twenty five seconds to type this whole informative post out it is because I was reported by the member I am quoting for using foul language against. I apologize and now I will gladly let facts and proper knowledge prove that your previous post in fact was not accurate of what was said about the product in question. Nice day y'all!
