2009 M3 or 2008 M3?? Need help!
I am debating buying a new M3 or a low milage used. I found a low milage 2008 loaded for 55,000. The exact same car new msrps for 73000. I can get 3.99 through pen fed. What is everyone's opinion?
Thanks, Chris |

How much money do you want to pay for '09 iDrive? But also, $73k is too much for an '09 - start at invoice. Also, think about Euro delivery (-7%).

If you get an 08, do not EVER try the 09 idrive as you will hate yourself.

i dont know why everyone complains so much about idrive; it really isnt that bad or difficult to use. It is far from the best but not a deal-breaker...even the new idrive is not the best in my opinion. If interface is a big deal to you, steer clear of bmw, i have an s550 and find it quite amazing, i can do it blind folded, voice entry is superior etc...but then again people complain about that system as well(command)....i think the new lexus one is the highest rated one...but to sum-up, i would take the 08, but not at 55k, especially cause its used.
anyways, there is my idrive rant- its really not so bad, but i agree, bmw dropped the ball. |

As to the OP's question, 55k for a used 08 is good depending: is it an E93? If not, you're paying too much. Also, do you want an extended warranty? Plan to keep it over the warranty? You may want to go CPO or have the original owner buy the warranty, or hell, if you plan on going over 5 years, just get the new one. My opinion. I originally chose an 08 E93, but someone bought it first. So, I got a new one. Don't regret it one bit. |

I asked the same question just a few days ago. Go 09 and build it to how you want it. I went down to the dealer and drove the 08 and decided to go new. You'll never know if the past owner broke the car in right or just went buck wild!

weird, what year is the sl? i guess maybe i am more familiar with the command system...its just more intuitive, agreed 09 idrive is superior to the 08 one, but still. i dislike the lexus one, the only thing is i heard great thinggs about the mouse-interface on the 2010 rx... personally, if its everything u want in 08 for 20k cheaper, i would take it. and i hate used cars, but personally i wouldnt spend 75k on an m3...there are other cars i would stretch too or look at. |

I've been talking to a couple private sellers and they are convinced their car is worth atleast $59K because "similarly equipped cars are priced at a little over $70,000". $59 seems way high to me, especially for 2000-4000 miles (used) - or am I crazy? |

OP, Order the 09 for $500-1500 over invoice, used 08's should be 50,000 at most , that's it.
WangTa, my experience has been that private sellers are not dealers and, therefore, most have no concept of what the true value of their cars are, nor do they understand depreciation. 59k for an 08? when brand new 09's can be had for 64-66. That'll be a tough sell. But, hey, they can try and sell it for whatever they want, right? |

1. Order the same features on an '09 built to order M3 at near invoice ~ $63K, then do Euro Delivery and chop off another $4K; totalling around $59K - the same price the guy wants for his USED '08 M3! I wonder what will happen later this summer when '10s hit the lots....'09s will drop too, but '08s should be "affordable", right? Working with private sellers is nice - you don' tget the overhyped salesman, but annoying at the same time, because they are too optimistic about the price they can command because "other cars with the same features are priced at blah blah" - its like comparing apples and oranges. Sigh. |

Can someone please explain euro delivery to me? I apologize for my ignorance, but what can I expect to pay for a 2009 car that MSRP's for $73,000 as a euro-delivery? Where can I get a euro delivery? I have a guy with a loaded 2008, but he will not break $56000 and it has 3800 miles. It is exactly like I like, but if I can get an 09 for close then I want to do that. Thanks for everyones help.

Sorry, just did a search and read all about euro-delivery. What I got is that it is about 10% discount off of MSRP. My question now is what would I pay for a 09 that MSRP's for $73,000 is the US? Do I still have to pay gas guzzler tax? Are state taxes the same? What is the approximate cost of the trip? How much are the savings truely over bargaining with a local dealer? Thanks for everyones help.

OP, I'm not sure where you're getting that 10% figure, but guess on about 7 maybe 8% off MSRP. Wangta's calculations are a bit off as EuroDel is discounted off of MSRP and not a new negotiated price. The price in the U.S. or in euro delivery can't go less than invoice unless there's some rebate we don't know about. Ultimately it really isn't cheaper to do the euro route as its not much less than what you can get here and it takes a couple months longer to get your car.
The benefit is that its kinda cool to be able to drive on the autobahn and your transportation is covered while you're in Europe. If your goal is to try and save some bucks, it doesn't make any sense as you'll be spending money in getting to Europe and while there. Oh ya, you hafta pay for the car before delivery in Europe and then not be able to use it while waiting for it to be transported back to the U.S. Plus they stick tourist plates on the front and rear of your ride and you'd be driving on the autobahn during the breakin period of your call. Just some thoughts... |

E90 M3: ED MSRP: $51,010; ED Wholesale: $46,930
E92 M3: ED MSRP: $53,800; ED Wholesale: $49,495 E93 M3: ED MSRP: $61,845; ED Wholesale: $56,895 Take that ED wholesale pricing and then add your options using U.S invoice pricing. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165927 Add, $500-1k for dealer profit. That will be your price. But yes even with ED you need to pay GGT and your states sales tax.

Seems like you don't know about the Euro delivery invoice pricing.. Lets see here: The MSRP on a E92 is about $57,850, the euro delivery price is about $53,800. Now.. most dealers stop there and that's where the money savings end. In my case, I had went for the invoice OF the invoice so to speak which is about $49,495. My salesperson is willing to give me a brand new Euro delivered M3 Coupe or sedan for 750 above the $46,930 sedan/$49,495 coupe invoice confidential whole sale price. There are 3 prices in fact in this case for me at least. For the coupe: MSRP: $57,850 ED MSRP: $53,800 ED WHOLESALE: $49,495 For the sedan. MSRP: $54,850 ED MSRP: $51,010 ED WHOLESALE: $46,930. In July I'll be picking up my E92 M3 that was loaded with an MSRP of $68,900 for $59,100. That is also with euro delivery wholesale priced options as well. Example: Instead of $3,250 for the Technology package, the invoice price of that via ED pricing will be $2,960. Hopefully I cleared some things up if the user above me didn't quite make sense. Great info there ^^ Last edited by GhostyM; 04-27-2009 at 03:16 PM.. |

Chipped B6, thanks for the clarification. I was unaware of that Euro del invoice pricing. Pretty cool though. I guess that answers the OP's questions then, huh? I'm calculating about 4k savings off of the U.S. price, is that what you got? So that would certainly pay for a trip. You'd still have to "prepay" and it still takes longer to get though. But certainly the choice is obvious for getting a new Euro del vs. a used M3 with x number of miles when priced like that.
