2007 Audi RS 4
MSRP Price $66,000
Again, I think BMW will miss a HUGE segment of the people who would buy the M3 if they price it at the RS4. The RS4 has more to offer than the M3 starting with 4 doors and a reasonable back seat, Quattro, and an Audi interior. Also, the RS4 has most options built into its base price, while BMW is notorious for making everything a 1 to 3K option.

Base MSRP of 66K USD would mean an out the door price of between 74 and 76K. I think people would just buy a base 997 for that price.

Bottom line, M3 is not as much of a car as the RS4 or any 911 and BMW would be sorely mistaken to price it as such.

You forget about the M3 sedan

It will be cheaper than the coupe and be the direct competition for the RS4

I do not think the M3 sedan will be a direct competitor with the RS4. The E90 is not as attractive as the small audi 4 door, again with the Quattro, again with the plush Audi interior. I think the RS4 is somwhere just below the M5 but well above the 3 series.

Keep in mind a driect Euro to USD is not always accurate. BMW has priced their cars lower in the US, so it's not 1:1

Well if these information are correct then I would rather get a 335i with Proceed and aftermarket suspension. I am not paying 15-20k extra for a v8 m3 that has same 0-60 as the old m3 yet heavier than the old one.

Here the RS4 is seen as well below the 3 Series

And its ugly in my opinion

Dude, the new M3 will trounce the RS4 and the 911. It make even best the 911S. I know, no detailed, official specs or test reports yet, but mark my words. BMW has directly targeted and benchmarked against both of these vehicles with "satisfactory" results! You can find this information on GCZ.com and here.

Talking about our market

Audi had to give serious discounts to get the RS4 to sell, and its hardly selling any.
Infact the 3 Series outsells the A4 line at more than 12:1 each month

aerisolphaln used the US and UK 335i base and used a ratio to get the estimated E92 M3 price in USD. You are right that currency conversion is not "always accurate". In fact it is an absolutely terrible/lousy/inaccurate method and never works.

Based on specs that have been released I would say you are way off base. It seems as though the M3 MAY even race a 911 to 60 but would not keep up with an RS4 or 911S.

Also, you get so much more for your money with the RS4.

And the M3 is not in the same league as far as head-turning style as the 911.

I will be very disappointed if BMW offer what we've seen so far of the M3 at base prices of greater than 55K USD.

Dude, how should the M3 not keep up with the RS4? Same power aswell as at least 100kg less weight should be more than enough to outperform the RS4!

And you're right that an M3 is not in the same league as the 911 in terms of price and styling, but we're talking 'bout performance!

Best regards, south

Consider power to weight ratio: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=power+weight
Better power to weight ratio than 991S
South was generous, probably about 180kg less weight.
Significantly less drivetrain loss, maybe 7% less comapring to quattro
Less parasitic losses like the alternator
Better weight distribution

Car and driver has launched the old m3 to 60 in 4.8s. (You can verify it but I am confident that's correct.) I am sure the new m3 will have lower 0-60 number than manfacturer suggested figure, but I was hoping the figure to be at most 4.5s. What would sell me at this point is the new M3's suspension. I will wait till its release to decide on what to do with my deposit

This makes no sense. First, the RS4 is still an A4, not an A6. Just like the M3 is a 3 series, not a 5 series like the M5. As far as the RS4 being a nicer looking car than the E90/92 M3, that's a matter of personal preference. So the RS4 is a supped up re-enginered A4 - but it is still an A4...a very expensive A4, IMO. And if the new M3 comes in at the RS4 price, it will be too expensive as well.

Hi,
#1 for a 4 door m3, dealer explained similar things to me colors and possible spec, but said car would be £45k to £46K, i read somewhere on this site that the price is going to be 66k Euro?, if that figure is converted into pounds sterling it equals £44,696.04. Audi RS4 does not have the drive quality of a M, the only car i would say matches or slightly betters it is the 911s / turbo, i thought the whole point of these types of cars is for driving experiance and something to put a smirk on your face Audis do not do that, as they feel like a VW who owns them to many bits are shared, this also put me off a Lamb Galardo i drove felt like a go kart with VW/Audi bits?? BMW always try to keep quality high by making bits for the purpose and not the other way around, i think the performance build quality and driving pleasure will speak volumes over the competition!

aerisol is a troll.

ignore aerisol guys..he's just trolling...lol.

the new m3 is at least in the same league as an rs4, if not likely better. any knowledgeful car enthusiast or major magazine will agree, so its a mute point.

as far as the 997, i have the choice between a 997s NOW or the new m3 in many months from now and I've decided IM WAITING. the newer car, extrahorsepower(granted a bit heavier), four seats, experience from owning a prior 986, 996 and an e46 m3, and overall creature comforts point me in this direction. now a non-S 997 vs an e92 m3...that's a stupid question if you ask me. price is high, but believe me when i say bmw will create higher demand than supply even at $60k, so pricing is also a mute point. if u think the price is too high, then don't buy it...many will want your position in line.

although not ugly...and this may be a matter of preference, i would seriously take anyone who thinks the new rs4 is truly "beautiful" with a grain of salt.
