Question about Rattles.
Hey everyone. Haven't been on the forum in a while and its good to be back.
Question though.... (I have searched, don't worry, and this thread is not about complaining, because I'm in love with my M) I have ZCP and was wondering if any other fellow ZCP drivers experience rattles and creaks more than usual on their normal day to day driving. I know the drop and stiffer suspension can play a role in this but it is still kind of frustrating. Mostly mine just makes creaking noises when going over bumps or brick pavers in the road....mostly in the upper dash area next to the windshield. But i have noticed an ongoing rattle with the door pocket and the plastic under the seat that I think I'm going to take it to BMW for and see if they can get it to dissipate. SO my questions. 1) Have people had generally good luck when they take there car in for rattles? I'm hesitant to take it in because I don't want the interior ripped apart then getting it back with only more rattles. 2) Anyone else have the same rattles? And if so, have any good quick fix tips? I love my car and am not complaining but I also can't stand rattles. I know this is a product of having a stiffer suspension but I don't know when to ignore it and when to attempt to getting it fixed. Thanks guys.

It appears so. PM the folks here who said their dealers performed work to [attempt to] alleviate rattling:

I really feel that taking apart the pieces to try to fix rattles ultimately creates only more rattles. It just seems to loosen the whole thing up, loosen all the bindings that secure things in place. At least that's what happened in previous cars that I've messed with panels on.

I have most of the rattles that are mentioned in this thread. I keep on hand adhesive backed felt of different thickness. Felt has provided many successful rattle fixes for me. When I can't get it quieted down with felt I will often break out my bag of foam earplugs.
I have been able kill the worst of rattles with those squishy foam ear plugs. What I do is roll the earplugs between my fingers until their size is very thin. They will hold their compressed shape for 7 to 10 seconds before expanding back to their original shape. Working fast, before they have a chance to expand... I quickly stuff them in MY EARS! Works every time... No More Rattles! |

Where can I get those adhesive felt pads? The dealer is going to put those on too if I take it in so I might as well just do it myself

I have the rattle in the dash right above the gauge cluster. It drives me fucking insane. When I get home on tuesday I am making an appointment to have it looked at.

I've had the ZCP for just under a month and no rattles yet and I drive on some pretty awful roads. I have heard a creek in the dash a couple times, but not recently. I sort of expect to get some eventually though, crappy roads and stiff suspension I don't care how good the build quality is eventually something will come loose.
