E46M3 Track Car build

Few new pics...

UPDATE: Progress has been slow but its finally gone to paint. Few pics from the paint booth! I'm going to really like the final color! The combo is going to be fireorange, CF roof, trunklid and hood, light grey interior. Enjoy! BC

Hi all,

Here's where all my time and money are currently going Thought I'd post up some pics. It's an '03 M3 with 68k miles and was in really good mechanical shape when I bought it. 3G Motorsports here in GSO, NC is doing the build and have been great to work with. The owner (Greg Jones) is a super knowledgable guy and fun to work with. Plans are: Moton Clubsports, PFC BBK, Pectel engine management,SS stepped header, BW race exhaust, fan delete, lightweight flywheel/clutch, sparco circuit seats, fire suppression, Fire Orange paint, CF roof, Black Arc-8 wheels and the list goes on...

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I'm starting to see more and more e46 builds these days. They're reaching the point of the perfect price/speed ratio. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys.... Will keep you all up to date. Hopefully tomorrow I'll see the CF roof. Greg knows the guy (seems like he knows everybody - he worked for Childress Racing for 7 years (I think) and has been involved in the Rolex and Grand-Am series with the latest stint working with Stevenson Motorsports last year) who made parts for PTG and so we used him to make the roof.

that is a VERY intense cage! im excited to see the progression of your build!!

What are the benefits of running the Pectel Engine Management in comparison to a custom tune?

It allows for precise dyno tuning of the car and simpler/lighter wire harness.

Thx!

Very cool! It would be sweet to a CSL/CF airbox on your car

Who do you plan on working with to tune your car?

Current plan is to add a CSL airbox - probably the one Chad Nelson offers but that's TBD. Otherwise the engine is going to remain stock (for now) except for new rod bearings. Will do some preventative vanos/cam gear work as this seems to be a burgeoning problem for the E46. The dyno tuning will be done by the folks doing the build - 3G.

Thx!

Barry, have any updates for us? CF roof install? I suspect there are some who are living vicariously through your build.

Hi all - no real updates at this point. Things have slowed a bit but the car is supposed to go to paint this week so hopefully I'll have some substantive updates in a couple of weeks.

Thanks,
Barry
