Canadians! Where do you get your tires from?

I have tried 3 ways.

1. from Tirerack, shipped to US border and picked it up. Paid duties.

2. from Tirerack, shipped directly to Canada. Duties & handling fee.

3. Local shop.

Seems like number 1 is the cheapest way...
But I recently found out about a Canadian website that's kinda like Tirerack (1010tires)

So, Where do you guys get your tires??

by the way, the second option is a complete rip-off. Don't do it.

I use option 1 always. 1010tires is based in Vancouver I think. Still way more.

I would probably go with # 3. I am seriously thinking of driving across to Buffalo and getting them from there.

Usually I import from the US. After my current experience I can solidly say I will never do it again. Either pick #1 and take your chances or #3 with pricematching if possible.

Forget 1010tires; their individual tire prices are ok but their wheel/package pricing is ridiculous.

I have tried all three, and now get my tires locally. Most local shops charge a premium to mount tires they have not sourced for you so most local shops if willing, can match tirerack pricing when its all said and done with mount and balance. Plus then you have local coverage if you have any issues with the tires.

I have had really hard time getting Tirerack to warantee tires I have purchased through them.

I have bought from Tirerack in the the past when they had clearout deals like the Conti's for my E46 M3.Always great service from them. But lately I have been buying locally at almost the same price as buying in the US and shipping them & finding somebody to mount them. For a few bucks it is not worth the hassle. IMO

Tirerack is good but trying to do a warranty claim with a CDN dealer on the tires is a damn headache.

I found my local Costco is awesome. They were about $400 less than tirerack for mt first set of Michelin Cup tires!

I use local shops now, for the couple of bucks differnance in the price, i dont find that big of differance at the end of the day and the service from local shops is 100x better and i would rather support a local company

Shopping local is your best bet. I usually check out Kaltire and Costco. One thing with Costco is they will only sell you the tire size that originally came with your vehicle. Not sure if that has changed, but when I had my TJ I wanted to go from 28" tire to a 33", they couldnt' do it. With either they both offer lifetime balance, free tire repair and rotation if you purchase tires from them. I have gotten good service and price from both, but most of the time Kaltire is my choice...

Woah okay so it seems like getting tires from local source is a very popular option!

I might try this time, I'm too lazy to drive down to NY state anyways.

Still cannot decide between Hankook R-S3's and Nitto NT05's. argggg

This is true. Unless you have a great relationship with the guys who work there.

If they don't have what you are looking for listed on their web site call and they will get it for you.

Good luck!

It's shipping that I no longer trust. Some monkey at UPS rolled my tire over a builder's tack and decided to still deliver it to me. Now I'm going back and forth with the vendor and UPS. Vendor blames UPS. UPS blames vendor. And so forth. Would have liked to mount the wheels with this warm snap!! Ah, first world problems.

Option 1, many times. Just paid HST, no duty.

I've also heard good experiences of shopping local, but across the border at a US shop. Mount, balance, and drive home.

I haven't found anyone local that can come close to the pricing through option 1. If anyone has any dealer recommendations in the Greater Vancouver Area, I'll definitely check it out!

Guys, TireRack now actually allows you to pre-pay HST and fees, which prevents UPS from screwing you with fees on delivery. They still charge HST, 8% duty and 2% provincial tire tax (Ontario) plus $30 brokerage fee, but HST and provincial tire tax apply to tires bought in Canada too, so it's extra 8% and $30.

Still, may be possible to find cheaper local. Any good local sources for AD08s?

Does that include brokerage? It's pretty much the only UPS rapes you with anyways.

I got my AD08 from tire23 for a pretty good price...unfortunately it was $100 more than my RE11 that I bought the previous year...damn exchange rates.

I've decided to give Tires23 a shot. Their prices seem to be within $150 of Tire Rack's prices after taxes. This is for a set of Hankook RS3. If i were to go with a set of Michelins i'd definitely do option #1 since its almost $500 per set cheaper than buying locally (at least for the sizes i'm looking at).

I've used MegaWheelz in the past here in Mississauga. I highly recommend them but they tend to be a bit on the expensive side.

Yes it does include brokerage fees.

I find that if you shop around, the local vendors, particularly the smaller shops can often match, if not beat the shipped prices from TR. In the Fall, I picked up a set of Michelin X-Ice tires for the CRV, and believe it or not, Canadian Tire of all places was the cheapest.
