Ticket-ed

So today i got a $116 ticket for not having my seat belt. The funny thing is that i was following behind the officer for like 10 minutes, then he decided to make a illegal U turn(Motorcycle cop), and that's when he saw me for a split second that i did not have my seat belt on. So i kept going and put on my seat belt and just when i look into my rear view mirror he is making another U turn while putting on his lights. So he pulls me over and sees that my seat belt is on. He still decides to give me a ticket, and he said that he could charged me $116 more for driving without a license, and another $116 for having 13% tint all around(Supposedly he said tint gets darker as time goes on).

This whole time i was wondering if i could plead my case in court/to the officer by saying i had my seat belt the whole time? Does anyone know if he has to have "proof" of me not having my seat belt on. In Florida its bs for cops making you wear a seat belt, if I want to get injured that's MY option, right?

If your going to give me a lecture on wearing a seat belt/flame me for lying, just don't reply please.

Prosecuter is going to take the word of the officer more then likely that you werent wearing it....

Regardless of safety, I like the seatbelt so i dont go flying around the seat through the turns

you could get lucky and if the officer doesn't show up they throw away the ticket.

If the bolsters alone can keep you in your seat you aren't going fast enough.

1) Seatbelts are required in most states. In the Northwest they have huge "Click-it or Ticket" campaigns. If you're around a cop you should be smart enough to at least make it *look* like you have your belt on.
2) He really could have given you tickets for no license & tints. Be thankful.

Judges will take the cops word over yours... even if the cop lies - ask me how I know. It's a seatbelt ticket which is a non-moving violation so I say pay the ticket & move on. Won't affect your driving record. I would say contest it and see if the cop shows (if they don't it can be thrown out) but you'd likely miss work for it which would make it more costly than the ticket itself.

...in the long run, think about it next time, man. Cops are out to ticket people. If they see you without a belt, they'll hand you a fine. Next time you're driving behind a cop for 12 seconds (let alone '10 minutes') slickly put the seatbelt over your shoulder so it looks like it's on, or just click it on until you're not around them anymore. Life lesson. Sry for your luck.

So you were driving without a license and you'er complaining that you only got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

Sorry, but the clue meter's reading zero.

In South Florida, motorcyclists don't wear helmets either. Boggles my mind, but hey if it "looks cool" right?

It is not in SOUTH FL only, it is in the state of Florida...
Anyway, the case is simple -- the OP's word against the officer's word = the OP loses. As someone mentioned, there is a chance that the officer does not show up in court, but that is as risky as driving with no seat belt...
To the OP, how did you turn of the PING sound while driving without the belt???

You didn't have your seatbelt on, but since it was on when he finally pulled you over you think that means you had it on the whole time? Get a clue.

+1000

You're lucky you didn't get ticketed for tint and no license.
Following a cop and not wearing a seat belt = FAIL

You were asking for it, so just pay for it.
