Great weekend (again!), won 2nd place on Saturday in TT3.
Cheers

Holy COW! 146 back straight and 1:34s at Road ATL (was my home track for man years) is brutally fast.

Did you change spring rates? Also which wheels are you using to mount these massive tires?

Amazing job!!

Hey Lutfy
Good to hear from you! I was hoping to see you at VIR Hyperfest and chit-chat (did a 2:05.24, 2:03.20 virtual!).

My current set-up runs fantastic and the car feels super stable. The car transformed nicely from last year when you saw it, see below.
I'm running 150Nmm in the front with no helpers (see my strap solution in another thread) and 180Nmm in the rear.
Front rims are 10.5" and the rears are 11".
Any track events coming up for you?

Jakob, your times are very impressive

2:05 at VIR is like 2:02 at the Glen, which is GT3 RS fast

I'm surprised you haven't gone for a JRZ/MCS type suspension and instead keep a relatively civil KW CS 2W

The CS behavior with my higher springs and shock settings is quite different from stock CS settings. My car is planted. I can go sideways over the curbs and provoke elevation changes and the car is still on rails but I'm sure there's better stuff out there.
I'd love to have a side by side comparison JRZ/MC vs. my CS but I guess it will not happen unless someone sponsors a set.
I'm currently considering going to the Glen for the NASA TT championships. Was told its a nice track but needs a couple events to get fast.

I had one more day at Laguna Seca with Hooked On Driving today. The HOD event ended up being very nice because there were only 6 cars in our run group. You could run several laps and never see anyone…….unreal! And the weather was 55-63ºF.

I didn't think I would go any faster than yesterday because my tires weren't as new, but I was definitely driving more assertively today. Ultimately, I was able to run a bit faster---1:36.1. During my fast lap, I messed up Turn 11 just a little bit by gassing it too early on exit, sending the ass out a bit and having to let off the gas briefly to get it back. Looking at the AIM data, I calculated that little trip down Mistake Road cost me 0.5 seconds…..basically, I was on 1:35.6 pace exiting the final turn….and blew it. Also, the car double up-shifted from 3rd to 5th gear on the exit of Turn 10 which killed my acceleration going into Turn 11……That is very annoying…...Ah well….now I have the hunger to go back!

I ended up running three laps in the 1:36 range in that session. The fast lap being at the end of the session is another example of how good the R1S tires are----still really grippy on their 5th heat cycle, and also being able to handle a fast late-session lap. Also, the car was still pulling hard even though you can see the oil temps were getting up there on that lap. I do love tracking when the air temps are in the 55-60º F range! Gotta give a big thumbs up to NorCal weather in June!

E90 M3
Track/course: Laguna Seca
Best Lap Time: 1:36.18 (AIM Solo DL and Harry's Lap Timer (with external GPS) both show same time)
Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear
Tires: BFGoodrich R1S 285/30/18 square on Apex Arc-8 10.5" (tires on 5th heat cycle)
Suspension: JRZ RS Pro
Other mods: VF620, RD Sport front sway bar, car is gutted with full roll cage, APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: stock exhaust to meet 90db noise restriction, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, DSC-off

Dogbone , Nice driving! I really like your clean display and the (correct) gadgets.

Dogbone, do you find the R1S to be grippier than the R1 while lasting the same?

Thanks! I do like Harry's---although I think it's getting overly complex to navigate the menus now…..the menus used to be simpler which I liked. Anyway, with the external Emprum GPS device, it is VERY accurate. I've used it since my first track days. But the AIM simply collects WAY more data when connected to the CAN bus. And it's SUPER easy to use during the track day. The AIM analysis software is definitely a bear to use initially, but if you take the time to learn it, it's EXTREMELY helpful. I love going through the data after a track day now. The AIM people are REALLY helpful too. You can call them and they can help with all sorts of stuff with the software. They even created custom equations for me that could calculate ft/sec acceleration and stuff like that. Their support is impressive.

I have never tried R1---only R1S. I decided to give them a try after talking to Dan Avon (white E46 who is very fast). My go-to tire has been the Hankook TD. I feel the R1S is a faster tire. It's also about 2.5lbs lighter than a TD too.

I seem to be getting around 14-18 heat cycles out of R1S before some corner shows some cording. TD's last up to 20-25 heat cycles, but the grip falls WAY off on the higher heat cycles. The R1S's seem to stay faster for more heat cycles, but get less overall heat cycles.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback

I've tried R1 which were heatcycled and eventually corded them. Still, they were progressive, very grippy and overall made me happy. Will try new R1 next season, going on to NTs now

Very impressed with the development and fact you can utilize every bit from the car... The uprated spring (rates), who did you consult? I have been contemplating KW Competition with those rates. Either those or MCS from Bimmerworld. My track schedule is loosely scheduled for this year as I am spending a lot of time in the UK (Silverstone, Donnington in order..) as my little man lives there. Taking him to Rye House karting (ex L. Hamilton playground) and such.

Got access to an I Prepared E36 (my buddy with the RX8 got one and we co drive) so I wont be no where near your speeds. Hit me up (IM) with your schedule, I have Shadow's as well perhaps we can all link up.

PS: I will be doing a 24 hour Chump car with Sri Racing. We should try for that either at Road ATL or VIR, am open.

Congrats man.

Shadow, ditch the NT if you can (in event you have not purchased them yet) and go with RE71R. Clearly a FASTER tire and wears a tad bit more (but comes 8/32 I believe) so net net faster with same wear. 285 square should work or you can run 265/285 stagger. Thank me later.

I contacted KW in Germany and talked with the guys. I was contemplating with a real full coilover in the rear but then realized I couldn't run the 315/30 anymore. But my car needs those tires. If I had the space I would go 315 in the front and 345 in the rear but that's going to happen. My car is still 3580 lbs with me and more tire would be good.

I'd LOVE to join a jump car team and have some fun! I simply had not the time to connect with teams and discuss terms.
My schedule pretty much follows the NASA SE TT schedule
with maybe another RA or VIR test weekend to check out some more 'modifications'

already got the NT01, fortunately I also bought some RE71s which I'll mount on the BW 10.5 wheels!

Spent this weekend at WGI, 2:13.2, same as the heat cycled R1 I tried a month ago

So, 285/30/18 square rather than 275/35/18? I might give that a shot.

You'll likely need 10.5 wheels for something that wide

I'm also slightly concerned about the reduction in the overall diameter of the 285/30/18 wheel and tire combo (from the 275/35/18). Not sure if I should be or not.

I think you'll be good. You don't use MDM on track so you shouldn't have an issue. If it's massively different you can readjust your suspension so you keep the rake you want

Just got back from my annual Gingerman track weekend with WMHM. The track was pretty fast this weekend lots of personal bests and someone set the track record for fastest FWD (it was stupid fast!). In any case I beat last year's best by over 3 seconds! Only real difference from last year is test pipes, drop in filter, and pulley, and of course a more aggressive driver . I can honestly say I'm not sure that the car and I can really go any faster in its current configuration... I think it will take some aero or a supercharger to make a considerable improvement in times at this point. In any case here is the time and video:

Car: 2011 E90 DCT, family car - no weight reduction
Track/Course: Gingerman Raceway
Best Lap Time: 1:41.3
Brake Pads: StopTech ST60/ST40 BBK, Pagid RS29
Tires (Size & Model): 275/35/18 square Pirelli DH (hard compound) take-offs
Suspension: KW clubsport 2-way
Other Mods: Drop in air filter, test pipes, pulley
