I doubt, however, that a three point system is significantly safer in that situation.

I intend to have a pair of harnesses installed in my car before I take it to the track. I am sure that the majority of instructors are more comfortable with a four point than the stock belts. Four point belts also make it possible to utilize a Hans, which is safer still.
Be aware of track rules, as many North American tracks do not allow 4 point Harnesses at all.

I am not saying that the 3 point is the safest solution, but it has been proven in tests that a 4point harness without proper role protection puts the driver at significant risk.

I run a 6 point harness and a full cage in my track vehicle.

Technical Services Participant Bulletin

DATE: November 16, 2004 FROM: National Staff TO: All Participants

SUBJECT: Airbag Advisory

It has been brought to the attention of SCCA Technical Services that the use of full-face or closed-face helmets while driving vehicles with active airbag restraint systems may result in injuries in the event of a crash that deploys the airbag. Because of the location of the steering wheel relative to a driver’s position, the airbag axis is on a level with the driver’s chin. In a crash with airbag deployment, contact with the chin area of a full-face helmet can be so powerful "that the risk of fractures to the jaw cannot be ruled out" (Hubert Gramling, FIA Institute, FT3/AF, 18.5.1999). This applies to vehicle that may be used in Solo, RallyCross, High Performance Car Control Clinics, etc.

Therefore, it is highly recommended that full-face helmets not be used in vehicles with functional airbag systems. Potentially more restrictive language is currently being considered for 2005, which could appear in an early 2005 issue of FasTrack. If you have any questions, please contact the SCCA at (800) 770-2055.

I found that but aparently that is out dated info according to our safety guys up here in Canada. There is no requirement for disconnecting the bags here except for racing where the complete safety package is totaly different.

It may not be mandatory but it is still a good idea

Even if is just to save the cost of replacing the bags when you crash

Everytime that I have disconnected a circuit on newer car,I have had to live with warning lights till the computers have been cleared.I will probally just wear an open face if I discover that this is a real problem or maybe just get a track only car.

What do you think of running a race seat mounted with a good seat bracket on the OEM mount point with the 3 point stock seat belt without a roll cage? I'm thinking of running this setup in my new E92 M3 next summer at the track. I get better lateral support and a better seating position for 30 minutes sessions but does it really compromise my safety?
Thanks for your advice, Vince

Make sure that if you do that you use a FIA approved seat. There are a lot of seats that will not be safe in a crash. FIA approved seats are sanctioned for motorsports.

I used to run sparco sprint's on my last track car. They're FIA approved and get the job done. They're also pretty affordable.

Thanks. It's a Cobra Suzaka GT seat. I really love it.
Here's a picture of it.

I run momo seats in my track car. I know they aren't the coolest brand, but they are cheap, light and FIA approved, plus they are wide enough for my fat ass!

I have that harness which I used on my E46 for the past several years. I took it off before I sold my E46 and was hoping to use it in my E90 M3.

Anyone knows how to which front and rear anchor points to use on an E90?
Thanks,

I found the Schroth Quickfit which seemd great as we can put it off easily, but it's only for M3 E46....

Do you know any brand which make a good one for M3 E92.

Any advice or help are welcome!!
Thank you all.

I assume there is a fuse to pull, just not sure which one.

The ASM belts from Schroth are the only allowed 4-point belts in many clubs right now. There are 3 reasons. 1) They have anti-submarining technology, 2) They are DOT approved and crash tested to meet euro regs, and 3) HMS endorses them for HPDEs.

They also make a model that allows you to use a HANS, which is like having your cake and eating it too. I hope they are working on a version for the E90, HMS says any time now.

I think the rear left anchor for the bracket should be simple. Lift the back seat bench and use the seat belt lower anchor bolt.

I am a bit unclear about where to attach the front left bracket though. Any idea?
