Shifter extension for DCT

Fellow Dct owners. Has anyone seen an upgrade or extension to the stock dct shifter I feel its a bit lacking in size. I like the one that IND did for the 6mt but I have never seen anyone do anything for the dct. It would be cool to lengthen it . It would almost be like a sequential box.

I'm quite happy with my knob
It's a known fact that the knobs of 6MT owners are bigger than DCT owners

You guys are funny. My neighbor has a full machine shop. I am going to look into making one. Does anyone know if the gear shifter detaches?

Does anyone know how to get the DCT shifter out or off. Does it come off? I can't seem to figure it out.

I figured it out.

I am going to have a new one made out of billet aluminum this weekend. I will post pictures.

Ok Here is a sketch of how its going to look. I have found a place that has some solid blocks of billet aluminum. I am going to have them make the sketch below.

The shifter will be 12 inches. and about 2.5 in diameter. I am going to have it anodized black. It will be round not like the the picture.

I have another friend who does bunch of stuff with led lights. I was going to try to source some led's in bmw colors and make the top of the shifter with functioning led lights. That part will drop into the top of the shifter and the center of shifter will be hollow so the power cord can go down to the adaptor.

When I get the first working prototype I will post pictures.

don't you think 12 inches will be a little TOO long?

Ok the shifter is being machined this week and I am ordering LED's now. Anyone know the voltage that goes to the lights in the stock DCT shifter.

Here are the led's I was thinking of using. In red blue and white.

i actually thought about a sequential style shifter for awhile now but glad someone took the initiative to start it.

my idea was to buy an oem dct shift knob and just cut, lengthen, and solder the wires down the shift and voila i got oem knob, lights, and sequential style shifter.

oem knob $191: 25122283705

the 12" is way too high. the knob should be high enough where if you rest your elbow on the armrest you can comfortably reach the knob. either way, looking forward to your result .

That is a killer idea ! As a back up i am going to order the oem style knob and potentially just cut the top off it and sink it down into the top of the billet extension.

I am going to have like 3 different lengths made and find the best height to use.

Also like the idea of being able to reach from armrest.

to give somewhat a better idea of what i had in mind: the shifter i want a thin hollow tube making it light and on the top mount the oem shift knob. since the tube is hollow run the oem wires down and connect it under the shift boot. perfect oem like install, just have to worry about height. to get the diameter of the tube just measure your stock knob. too big a tube the boot won't fit and too small will leave spacing in the hole.
