Thinking of switching tires

I put this on the tires and wheels section but I figured it would get more response here.

I really wanted the PS2's on my car, but when it came in, of course it had the Conti's. I only have about 4000 miles on them and I'm thinking of installing a set of new PS2's.

I haven't tracked the car and really don't plan to. I've always liked Michelin tires and I can't remember the last car I had that didn't have Michelins.

I know its my decision, but and pros and cons on either tire is appreciated.

What's wrong with your Conti's?

Your Continentals will soon wear out, replace them then.

Why do you say that? The Contis will last longer than the PS2s will. I have at least 8K on mine and they still have quite a bit of tread and that's driving it every day, two trips to the Ring, and a road trip to Italy.

The continentals are a higher tread wear than the ps2 (280 vs 220) so they should last longer.

get Bridgestone re-11's,

I replaced my ps2 with those and they are superior in every way.

better thread wear (the ps2 wear down quick if you show them some corners)
much better traction (including in the wet which I wasn't expecting)
my god are the pretty.

cheers

Although treadwear ratings are relative to a basis of 100, each manufacturer's definition of what constitutes 100 is different. Hence, identical treadwear ratings across manufacturers will yield different actual real world longevity. Pretty much means that you can throw the treadwear ratings out the window.

Well the test is standardized but the way the data is calculated can be the problem.

Pirelli, Pirelli, Pirelli. PZero is the best performance tire on earth IMHO. Had them on my E46 and they were bad ass. Grip on the car was much improved with the PZero's. PS2's are pretty good as well. No experience with Conti's or anything else on the E92. But I had several different brands on the E46 and Pirelli was by far the best experience. My E92 came with PS2's. I got PS2's on the first tire change. Couldn't wait 3 days for Pirelli's to be delivered as I already had one tire down to the nitty gritty. But next time around I will call ahead of time.

Friend of mine has an E90 and went with the PZero's. Says he won't even consider putting anything else on in the future.

If you have money to throw, get the PS2s that you want right away. If you don't, common sense would be to wear out the Continentals that you have and then switch to whatever tire you desire.

BTW, I've had many performance summer tires (excluding PS2s) on my E46 and Continentals were my favorite. Lasted much longer than others and had the quickest initial response.

It sounds like you're never going to find out what the Contis can do, so keep 'em until they wear out and get the PS2s then....no brainer.
