insideline is reporting that there will be no M1. Instead there'll be a 135is, not unlike the 335is. I wonder how this might affect the rumored power increase. Maybe I'll order that 2011 after all.

-There may or may not be an M1. -The M1, if it exists, may or may not have sufficient power to encroach on the M3. -If the M1 exists and is as fast or nearly as fast as the M3 is some respects BMW may bump the M3 power. It's all a big "if". If you want/need a car now and have the means to buy an M3, get it. Heck, the M3 rivals the E6x M5/M6 in plently of performance metrics. But BMW has never changed the ouput of those cars (not even given the S85 the same hp/L as the S65 for that matter). |

Yes, IMHO.
The E9x M3 (not to mention the E46) debuted with less power than the competion, so predicting BMW's plans by observing the power output of competition isn't necessarily valid. Don't get me wrong, the car would benefit from more power. But there was always the GTR there with more power if you wanted more power, or the CTS if you want a sedan. The new RS5 and power bumped C63 are not going to change the fact that the M3 wasn't even close to most powerful coupe nor sedan in the segment since it came onto the market. The fact is, the M3 remains one of the most competent and desireable cars in this segment. There's more to the game than just the raw engine output. |

Let's not turn this into an N54 discussion. Thanks!

Hey guys, do yourselves a favor, and read all of my posts, the ones where I talk sh*t about my car and how its nothing more than a daily commuter......my feelings on turbos being for commuters and N/A high-revving is for performance and track cars are NO SECRET, as are my epic battles with with various members (footie...cough, cough) on this subject. I'm one of the original guys on these forums and my stance hasn't changed. Its not like I came on here and ripped the //M. So see my statement for what it was, and kindly BACK OFF.
Cheers, e46e92

"Yes, A slight boost , M3 will possibly get an upgraded Competition towards the end of the production. The M3 GTS has ruled out any additional major changes other than cosmetic and electronic. It is still under discussion." |

Can't go *back* to a V6 - never been one in an ///M (don't think they have made one for non-M Div Bimmers either, AFAIK). But as others have stated, will likely be a TT6 and possibly a 'V' even though BMW AG has deep history and experience w/ in-line 6's.

More from Scott26:
"The M3 does not get any power updates within it's "Competition" package currently because of the M3 GTS. By purely a marketing view we cannot introduce a ltd edition car such as the M3 GTS and allow a Competition Package with similar update on the back of it's launch. It is likely that towards the end of production that something will happen to the current car especially in light of increased competition. As for the M3 GTS? The M3 GTS has sold out it's allocation and the media will be driving this car in the next few weeks." http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=157 |

What is the latest on this? I ran into a guy the other day who said the 2012 M3 will have an inline six. We didn't talk long, but it left me wondering if he had info I haven't seen before, and I'm not sure if he meant model year 2012 or in 2012 (meaning model year 2013). I can imagine with increased fuel prices and government regs for manufacturers taking effect in the next few years, BMW may speed up plans to implement a more fuel efficient engine for the M3s. Since I've already ordered a 2011 E92 for ED, I hope to enjoy the car at least a couple years before the resale value plummets.
