Blackhawk and an F30

Had a great day at Blackhawk Farms Raceway today. First time with the car at the track, new run group, loved the track. It's definitely a smaller track and it's a bit scary with all the trees and things to hit, but that's what makes it fun
Thought I'd share a few laps and some nice footage of an f30 328 out there, it looks nice. The new M's going to be a beast

I've been off track in just about every turn there except 4 and I haven't hit anything yet. Did end up in the swamp at the end of the back straight once. Fun track, if it was scaled up about 20% bigger it would be epic

I love the track, it's great fun to drive, but tough to race on. The front straight isn't long enough to get a decent draft going so if you're racing in spec classes like I am, by the time you get a run on somebody you're jumping on the brakes for T1. Most of the passing I've done there has been thanks to others' mistakes.

Wow.. for some reason a previous video of Blackhawk left me with an unfavorable impression. Totally changed my mind -- might be worth the trip down after all. Was this just one of their open track days?

That was fun--your car sounds good. Looks like you can get a lot of good rotation on those tight turns--I bet that track would be a blast in an Exige.

What did the F30 328i have? It was quite quick on the turns.

You have good driving skills man!

It was a SCCA PDX event. I, too, was pleasantly surprised

Pretty sure the 328 was stock. It was pretty quick, but I let off (you could tell my tires stopped squealing and the engine was a lot quieter) as there's not a lot of passing zones so didn't want to get on his ass till I could make the pass Still... that's one quick eco-cruiser and am now looking forward more than ever to the new M.

Nice! How have the peices of new pavement held up? I am supposed to be racing up there this weekend, but I have heard that parts of the re-paved track have been falling apart. Hoping that still isn't the case.

Seemed pretty good to me. Heard stories about turns 1 & 7, but things looked ok. Seemed like a nice, smooth, fast track, good luck this weekend

Nice lines, as always.

Looks like a nice, flowing fast track.

Nice video. How much run off is there?

I'd like to see the F30 front suspension. I think they've ditched the lower wishbone and is now using a multi-link setup.

Runoff at BFR is pretty good except in the "autocross" section after turn 4, where it's easy to hit stuff driver's right if you go 4 off.

Front suspension is very similar to the E90 (almost identical, actually). The E90 ditched the "wishbone" LCA with one inboard and outboard ball joint and one trailing bushing mounted directly to the chassis in favor of a two-link setup that connects exclusively to the front subframe with two lower ball joints on the knuckle. This design pushes the pivot point of the knuckle further toward (and actually slightly outboard in some cases) the front tire centerline, which is one of the reasons our cars seem to be a little easier on front tires and need a little less camber in spite of being a lot heavier than cars carrying the traditional McStrut knuckle design on E46 and earlier cars.
