Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) in Dallas/Ft. Worth
Hey everyone,
I've followed the forums for a few years now and now I'm finally ready to get my own M3 (thanks to all the helpful information on the forums). I've identified several used M3s in the DFW area but I'm noticing that they are all being sold by third party dealers, the BMW dealers around Dallas and Fort Worth have absolutely nothing in stock. In regards to purchasing the car from a private dealer (non-BMW dealer), I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I know that a lot of people recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) done by a BMW dealer or a local independent shop. For people familiar with DFW, are there any BMW dealers that are better than others or are there any independent shops that are good? Additionally, if anyone has any advice on where else I can look for a used M3 or any advice regarding buying a used car, please feel free to share. Sorry for the long post, just have a lot of questions! Thanks in advance |

I had a BMW ppi before I bought my m3. It had just over 12,000 miles on it, and I wasn't worried about it, but it's good for peace of mind.
I was impressed with how thorough it was. I don't think an independent shop would be as thorough as a dealer for this type of car and purpose.

I have 2 M3s and live in Dallas. If you must have a dealer do the PPI I'd use Classic. Otherwise I'd head over to Spec, brad has a ton of experience with the brand and it's almost all they work on. My e46 is up there now. It's a ways up north in McKinney but not far from the tollway.

I'll second Classic on the dealer front. I'll also throw in Nerces at Autoscope or Barry at Nine Eleven, I've been taking my M3s there for years.

Autoscope -- ask for Chris. Hands down the best PPI I've ever had. Saved me from two potential lemons, and a lot of lies from dealers.
It's not cheap ($275 if I recall correctly on the last one), but absolutely worth the peace of mind. |
