Question Protection for road trip - opinions needed

I'm gonna be taking delivery in a couple of weeks from a dealership that's ~250 miles away from my house. I plan on putting a clear bra on as soon as I get back home. My dilemma is driving the car unprotected for the ride home because I'm worried about rock chips. I'm also concerned about putting anything on the car which might damage the paint. Do any of you have experience/opinions on any of the following options:

1. painter's tape overlaid with duct tape (for extra protection)
2. self-adhesive contact paper (used for kitchen shelving)
3. Griot's spray-on bra (http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...rrivals&page=3)
4. Autoskin (http://www.autoskin.com.au/main/order/index.php)
5. Clear vinyl sheets taped on the edges of the car (like the stuff used to cover formal dining room seat cushions)

Some of you who track your cars may have experience in this subject. Thanks for your help.

Cover it with painter's tape. That's what I'm going to do for my drive home, although it's a shorter one. I want it as close to perfect while I ponder using protective films. Good luck with it! You might lay down some spray wax on the parts to be taped to ease the removal.

I would ask your BMW dealer for the paint on protectant. Its like a glue that you apply with a brush, its clear and when your done with It you can peel it off, no residue nothing. I belive they would have some, as its what they apply just before the cars are transported.

I do not do a lot of freeway driving but have only a few small rock chips with 9500 miles of driving. And these chips are up on the hood where protective films are generally not placed. I try to stay far away from trucks, and do not follow other cars closely. I suspect you will be OK on your drive home if you are cautious.

Im going to use painters tape for my road trip to D.C. Its going to look funny as hell but it will be worth it.
