I think the pricing is ridiculous @ $125k but I'd wait a few years and get a CPO with low miles

Active sounds leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure the car will be amazing but theres something to be said about authentic things. Even if no one else knows its real, YOU DO. E92 may be my last "new" car and will add 993 in a few years. Less is more in my book.

There is way too much unknowns, and it's difficult to judge a car based on it's paper specs. I will pass my judgement on the F80 when the lap times on the various benchmark tracks are posted.

Damn that little thing did a 6:47 last time I checked. It's just that BMW scared that it'll take the shine off of its M models. And that's only the 28i!!!! The 35i can do a 6:20 no problem. The only thing that can come close is a 845k 918 spyder!!!11!!!

Just imagine what a Dinan tune can do to it! It'll be spanking GT500s on Hoosiers just with the all season run flats!11111 It can outrun a Porsche GT3 RS on a track, everybody's just like NO WAY as the beast shoots past.

Guys the X1 is the next supercar. Also, I'm tired of typing like a retarded teenager.

In any event, going point by point:

Although the S65 sounds really good on the right-hand side of the tach (and terrific from 7K and up), I have a soft spot in my heart for the sonorous snarl made by sporty BMW straight sixes over the years.

I don't care at all about rpm. For me, power is power, wherever it falls on the tach.

More complexity in the new one, almost certainly, but so what. You could clearly argue that the current V8 is definitively more complex than the straight six it replaced because it has more moving parts - and again, so what.

More expensive? Surely.

Lighter? I hope so, but although BMW has touted a weight loss in the new 3, that doesn't appear to be the case except in regard to the base model, wherein the new one is a (very) little lighter since the previous six has been replaced by a four.

CAR magazine quotes BMW as saying the new M4 has lost 100 kilos (about 220 pounds) compared to the E92 M3, which would be terrific - but I'm not holding my breath.

If true, however, the M4 will run right with the new Vette (or perhaps a tad quicker), since it will weigh less than the Plastic Bullet, with similar power.

On track? I don't expect a breakthrough in the suspension department, but perhaps they will tune out a bit of the persistent understeer that the current model shows when being really pummeled.

Can't tell about looks until we see some in the flesh.

Bruce
That Plastic Bullet C7 ran 1:38.28 at Laguna Seca the 911C4S ran 1:39.0 and Ferrari F12 ran 1:38.04 not bad for a 60K plastic bullet can't wait to see what Z07 will do when it comes out.

Its a new M3/4, so, by default I'm very interested in seeing what the final production version is going to be like but I'm very content right now with my E46 comp package and my RS5.

I am impressed to hell and gone with the new Vette, but am just doing an on paper comparison with what the new Bimmer may bring to the table.

We'll see, right? I don't have an axe to grind either way, but it's always nice to speculate on how a new model may perform - although I must say I expect the M3 with competition package and the good brakes to be priced way the hell up there compared to the Vette.

Hey Bruce I hear you brother we all just have to wait and see before any final verdict is out on new M3/4. Will it be different sort of beast yes, will it be disappointing IMO no, BMW has been getting it right for 20yrs now. I think some people will never like new M3/4 there are still people that still swear by E46 M3 and never really like E9x M's I think that will be same case here when it come to new M3/4. Once people get use to new design things will settle down hey based on ring numbers alone this looks to be even better handling driver car only time will tell.

To me next 2yrs are going to be very interesting think about all other car mfr what will they do next ? Audi RS5 more hp or lighter weight and then theres C63 AMG what direct will Merc go will it continue with huge HP number or will it go different route, and then theres Lexus with it's upcoming all new RC-F? will Lexus get this right, the latest info on RC-F coupe 5.0 V8 460hp/401tq with CF hood, roof, trunk with some of same running gear as LFA, that same engineers that work on LFA are working on RC-F? Then you have current C7 with Z51 package coming in at 66k you get upgrade suspension different rims slight bump in hp 460hp/465qt, 3444 lbs mid 3's sec 0-60 times, running 1/4 mile in low 12's great car. Don't forget Pony cars with up coming new Mustang with rumors that ford has finally ditched retro theme, sold rear axle thank god for that. What will next gen Mustang GT be like with modern suspension, body, tech and that beastly Coyote motor. Interesting times ahead and can't wait to see how things pan out over next few years for BMW and all other car mfr.
