That's what I was thinking.. but apparently the Prius doesn't have a neutral from what I've heard?

I doubt it.

Prius drivers have reported similar issues going back to 2000 when the Prius debuted. They've steadily increased over the years.

so many have this preconceived notion that Toyota is impervious to problems. Now that this thing has happened people don't want to believe it.

A pair of 911 calls spanning 23 minutes recounted the harrowing experience. In the audio released Tuesday, Sikes sounds panicked at times as he tells a dispatcher about a stuck accelerator. The dispatcher, Leighann Parks, repeatedly tells Sikes to throw the car into neutral and turn off the ignition. Sikes often didn't respond to her instructions.
Quote:
"My car can't slow down," Sikes tells her. At one point, Parks asks if he had put the car into neutral, and Sikes responds, "I'm trying to control the car!"

This dude's story sounded sketchy yesterday. Today it sounds even less credible.

Toyota trying to exact revenge for us dropping the BOMB on them during WWII.

Exactly what i was thinking looking at the video on Google News. When the woman asks him to try neutral, he goes "i cannot hold my goddamn phone" and conveniently forgets responding to it.

Yes, it also reeks of an elaborate plan by Obama administration to conceal his birth certificate

Better for me than the Germany's idea of exacting revenge which stipulates no movement at all (Read into HPFP's). To most competent drivers, stopping abruptly in the middle of the road is worse than an engine that will not be tamed conventionally.

I also wish that some of my fellow BMW drivers are tossed into ovens for the things they do on public roads.

Another Runaway Toyota Prius Reported

Quote:
She traveled 150 to 200 feet, he said, before the Prius' front end struck the rock wall -- built with boulders weighing some 500 to 1,000 pounds -- with such force that it "hurled those boulders 10 or 15 feet away."
riiiiight....

if he cant hold the phone, how can he use his hands to try to pry the accelerator pedal off the ground and check his mat as he claims?

I think that takes a few hands

I don't know. But I can see how a Prius owner might be panicked by the car going 94 mph.

Still, the cops said the accelerator was in a normal position at the end, and presumably was tested for normal travel. I guess the choice is that either he is a complete idiot (I can see how turning off the engine might be a stretch, but putting it in neutral should come to him after a little while without a 911 operator telling him), or it is just a stunt for attention.

Fake

The Toyota Hybrids are both Brake By Wire and Drive By Wire. They also have the brake override already installed (so as to prevent damage to the motors if you try to do a brakestand). Soooooo 1) find it hard to believe the brakes would start smoking and 2) the fact that the car would keep going even while being on the brakes.

I have a Camry Hybrid in the family. I've tried this a few times before. The throttle does not work when you're on the brakes.

Well either CHP Officer Todd Neibert is wrong or you are:

http://www.10news.com/news/22777208/detail.html

Quote:
"He was visibly shaken, he seemed in shock," Neibert said. "The brakes were definitely down to hardly any material."
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Runawa...ry?id=10046912

Quote:
Said Neibert, "When I saw him, I could smell the brakes."

I haven't seen one person yet present any credible evidence that Sikes is lying. The present case is no exception. Thus far, this thread amounts to a bunch of vapid theories substantiated by nothing. FWIW, Sikes doesn't plan to sue, so there goes that motive (at least for now, who knows if he'll change his mind):

Quote:
A law firm representing Sikes said Thursday he has no plans to sue Toyota over the ordeal.
