I've been doing a lot of research on this and for the price the Gruppe M is a bit too pricey. It will be better to wait and see what other alternatives will be out there.

Supposedly, aFe is in development of one. I currently have it on my FJ Cruiser & you can mos def tell a difference. I've heard good things about the e46 M3 version & they also have an e60 M5 & e63/64 M6 version available so looking forward to what they come out with for the e9x M3.

What they need to do, is drive the car for an hour, let the engine bay heat up. Then do dynos, they will loose power. HEAT SOAK. Your best bet, will be a drop-in filter or better yet the Dinan intake when it becomes available. |

http://www.afefilters.com/gendesc.php?partno=54-81162 They haven't officially shown a prototype for an e9x M3 application yet so lets not make the assumption it sucks in hot air.

AFE M5: http://www.afefilters.com/productrev...72/5411272.htm AFE Z4: https://www.shopatron.com/product/pr...54-10661/534.0 I have yet to see an AFE sealed intake for any BMW. Yes your FJ looks seal, a good buy. That is why you should wait for the Dinan intake. All their intakes are sealed, true cold air intakes. It will also be way less than the Gruppe intake. |

100% correct. Other than filtration, there's not much to be gained through an aftermarket intake.

Honestly, I'm willing to spend a couple hundred $$$ ($200-$300) to have a tad louder intake roar @ WOT...as long as I don't lose ANY hp/tq (peak & max) that is! Then again, $200-$300 for a legit e9x M3 intake is just plain wishful thinking on my part.

Lets just say I am 99.9% sure it will be like all BMW applications. But who knows hopefully they will prove me wrong. No don't work for Dinan. Dinan sucks, worst company ever, never buy from them, they are criminals. Happy. Quote:

Pretty random, but we're both in TX and when my car comes in, we'll both have the same engines in our two vehicles. Small world. |

Usually a company that starts with D and ends with a N, provides significant horsepower gains with their intakes. The E60 M5 intake is a 21hp gain and E46 M3 intake is a 18hp gain. Sorry I am not allowed to say the name of the company, "nucking futs" doesn't like me to. |

The problem with that AFE intake (at least the one for the same engine on the Tacoma) is that it's not completely sealed. There's a hole at the bottom that lets in hot air.
How much did the D___n intake for the E46 M3 run? |

$1399.00 for the E46 M3, compared to the Gruppe M($2800), not bad. D___n has extensive R&D and dynos to back up that price. Plus it is backed by the D___n warranty.

IMO, it's not always the case regarding charging more based on the vehicle. For instance, I'm sure some (but not all) companies such as AEM, K&N, aFe, etc. sell more intakes to more cars that are bought more such as Civics, Accords, 350z's, etc. In otherwords, it's harder to sell intakes to M3's, M5's, RS4's, etc since there are less on the road thus these companies have to charge more to make the same profit as they would w/a Civic intake if that makes sense. True, there is a hole at the bottom of the aFe BUT they actually sell a plug to fill it up (couple dollars). Or you can just get the TRD (aFe makes it) version which is the plugged-version.

When you say $2800, are you talking about the dry carbon fiber version for an e46 M3? You know, u can get the regular carbon fiber version for around $1500 right? I got lucky & got the regular cf version back then for less than $1000. Never had an issue w/it & enjoyed it very much. But ~$3k for the e9x M3 version?!? Forget that!

Yep, the CF one is about that much for the E92 intake that I believe is a bit more complicated than that of the E46 etc...
