The things shops don't tell you about car wraps

So I have decided to remove the 3m car wrap and switch up colors for,the 3rd time. I have done many plastidip cars before but this is my first wrap so I would love to share my newfound experience. As you can see to remove the vinyl is very easy. Once you get a corner going it simply peels off. in my case along with the clearcoat and the original paint.
1st picture some peeling is visible
Second picture shows the paint on the reverse (sticky side) of the wrap.
The 3rd picture shows the extent of damage occurred to the front bumper.
The only area that has been affected was the front bumper. Nowhere else has any damage been found other than the plastic bumper cover. Interesting for those contemplating on wrapping any plastic painted parts.
Plastidip is a much safer way of doing it guys. I went with 3m because it's the best and most expensive on the market. I guess I was wrong.

The shop owner said it happens a lot and they question the condition of the oem paint.

Nice...

I liked your car orange though. Both colors are great IMO. Why the change back? Just get tired of it?

Resprayed bumpers can do that, if not prepped properly.

OEM paint should never do that, one of my clients has a big vinyl wrap shop - they remove it all the time, normally without issue.

I even removed vinyl wrap from my resprayed bumper, came off very easy with a heat-gun and didn't damage paint at all.

That is strange, one thing of course everyone was thinking was that maybe the bumper was re-shot at some point... But this likely isn't the case because that paint would've peeled off too. No question.

I think your vinyl was hexis not 3m. Restyleit recommends it over 3m. I'm starting to believe them

I used 3M clear bra before, it was a pita to take the film off as well. I switched to suntek, 1000 times better than 3M... I think 3M quality is getting worse and worse.

FUCK! That's sucks!

My jet black paint on my rear bumper peeled off from a spoilers 3M double sided tape. A piece the size of a dime lifted right up to the bare plastic below.

Now I drench 3m tape in goo gone before pulling it up out of fear.

Time for the arkym bumper!

Maybe its a good idea before doing a wrap to go over the car with a paint depth scanner... Even purchased brand new, there can be re-spray spots b/c of something that happened at the dock. It does happen. This is a horrible way to find out if so.

Could be a freak thing also, but I do know folks who have reversed 3M and didnt have paint damage like that.

To be honest, I have been around the car wrap scene for some time now, and and reputable shop will tell you flat out that if any panel is re-painted there is a big chance the paint might come off. And its rare for it to happen to OEM paint.

Given that this happened to your bumper, I have a feeling it was painted at one point or another, perhaps before you bought it?

A clean title car does not mean of course that it has not had a fender bender or two, or at the least, has had panels re-painted.

Did they use a heat gun? Doesn't look like it by how the vinyl ripped.

My wrap came off perfectly fine, took it off myself with a heat gun. Took my time because I was afraid of something like that.
