Awesome ... Red Screen of Death

Red screen of death.

Looks like a new hard drive is in order ... just hope the dealer properly diagnoses and addresses the issue, especially if it doesn't flare up when I take it in tomorrow.

Could be a bad LVDS cable also. Either way, dealer should be able to take care of it under warranty.

Hmm, if it is a hard drive, is this a potential upgrade opportunity to get a solid state drive in there? Or does BMW use some proprietary crap?

I *thought*, BMW used VxWorks for the O/S for navigation and other internals.

Your air vents look like mine, is that greyish stained appearance a sort-of epidemic with E9X's in general? I haven't had that problem in anything else I've owned (E36/E39/E46) and I've tried cleaning/treating them but no dice, they still look the same.

Had the same thing happen to me. Bonus-new head unit + complete software remap which got me to 240E

I'd be good with that ... just hopping the R&R doesn't create unwanted rattles or creaks; car has less than 20k miles on it.

The nav display itself is easy-- just two screws and a cable.

OTOH, the A/C evaporator replacement requires a complete dash tear-out (urk). Talk about inviting in new rattles...

Sorry to hear that. The color, shown in that pic, isn't accurate as the iphone sensor doesn't have enough dynamic range and exposure was boosted due to shadows. Plus there's a layer of dust still from a recent 2000 mile road trip, most of which was top down.

Here is a recent shot of my interior, which is factory perfect still ... despite the car spending March to June with the top down (in Arizona).

I see, thanks for the reply. Mine is likely attributed to a chemical of sorts used to clean them in the past.
