Question No more 'pass-on' Maintenance for 2015 and on cars.

I read on page 36 of the September issue of Roundel that BMW will no longer 'pass-on' the warranty from the original owner....so no more warranty when you buy a 2015 and on car from BMW..

If that is correct, that seems a bit unfriendly of BMW to do that. Do other car makers do that now ?

Free maintenance no longer goes to a new owner for new cars sold on or after 7/1/14 (unless you sell to a household member): http://www.autoblog.com/2014/08/12/b...-to-2nd-owner/.

OP, the headline of that article is "BMW tweaks its Maintenance Program". If it's still possible, please edit the title of this thread to avoid directing unnecessary traffic here. The warranty is not the same as the Ultimate Service maintenance program. As for other what other manufacturers do, I don't know, but I do know that in most of the world, BMW's Ultimate Service maintenance program has never been available even for the original owner, so while it's sad to see it go in the US (especially since there's zero chance it will be accompanied by a price drop on the cars), it's not as if the US is getting shafted relative to the rest of the world. Besides, the total value of the service performed under the program never amounted to that much anyway IMHO.

Didn't they come out a while back and say that warranties are non transferable?

That wouldn't stop me from buying another pre-owned M. If I'm lucky, it will pay for two oil changes, but I think it's going to end up at one. Not that impactful for me.

I think there was something about CPO warranties not being transferable, but I'm not certain on that. But the factory warranty to my knowledge still runs for the stated mileage or time regardless of how many owners the car has in that period (barring any owner activity that would void the warranty, of course).

BMW would rather save real dollars on maintaining and fixing cars that have had more than one owner within a 4 year or less period than worry about what this move will do to slightly hurt residual values of their cars. It certainly won't hurt new sales because new car buyers and lessors don't care about the next person. If you're a BMW shareholder this is an awesome business move. Sorry.

Well I'm glad I bought my car mid June of this year and still have warranty remaining til 04/15. I've already gotten 2 new headlights out of mine so far and it's only been about 3 months. About to schedule for a convertible top issue next week. I'm going to try to milk the original warranty before it wears out...

Also...wouldn't this lower resale on pre owned bmw's?
