1 year mark with my AW e92 m

I decided to write this thread to share & remember the journey with the M.
I've wanted an e92 m3 since 2013.
This buying process took me about 2 years.

2019, I had a chance to buy a low mile manual stripper e92. However, I recently graduated and priority was to get engaged to (now my wife).

2020, COVID hit, I work in healthcare so other than work, I really did not do anything but stay in my room as I was exposed to COVID all the time (had to quarantine at home). This is when my urge to buy a weekend car started again. However, I once again had to put down that urge due to knowing that I need a house first before a weekend car. Then I ended up purchasing the third home we saw in Aug 2020.

2021, Now married and a home owner, I got the itch again. Except this time, I started to get curious towards f87 M2. Almost putting an order in, I decided to reach out to someone who I kept in contact with in case if he decided to sell his M3. Perfect timing, we spoke on the phone, agreed on PPI. Upon hearing PPI came out great, my wife and I were on a plane to California from Michigan.
We wrote a check, drove the car around for the day and flew back the next day. about 3 weeks later, enclosed trailer was there to pick the car up.

Delivered

2022, Car was delivered. Immediately stored in the garage next to my (now gone) 38k mile NA6 MX-5.
Car was maintained well when I bought it, all fluids done, recalls done, plugs done etc.. So I decided to order parts for the rod bearing job.
in March, I went on a vacation, returned April. Immediately upon returning, I drove the car to Dixon Motorsports and had them work on replacing rod bearings. Bearings themselves looked good for 48k miles.
Motor mounts were replaced at the time as well. What a difference did that make wow.

05/22 Parts I've ordered started coming in. Installed M performance steering wheel, Dinan intake, AA mid pipe, and Dinan exhaust. Sounds fantastic in this combination. upon installation, gave some deep cleaning inside and out including engine bay.

This Summer was full of early morning cars and coffees. This car has definitely brought new friends in my life (Even came across my middle school buddy who has a shop). I was then gifted a GTS lip so went to my friend's shop and swapped my OEM splitter to the GTS lip. I'm digging the GTS lip as of right now.

Fall season came quick, this was the last drive before the oil change and storage.

In 2023, I plan to do all fluids, akebono pads, new tires, and new Hyper silver ZCP wheels? or refinishing them? Local guy says he can powder primer - HS paint - powder clear coat. I'm curious to see how good that'll be..

Sounds like my life events as well. Wanted an M3, started working in healthcare, but decided to wait and get engaged/married and buy a home first. Two years later I finally got my AW in 9/2022!

Nice one, and great upgrades. Similar to my OEM+ E90. Dinan exhaust plus intake, in my case full Eventuri, sounds awesome. I'd go with the original ZCPs rather than powder coat. Just a bit more cash gets the perfect hypersilver and factory new wheels.

Love the e90's rear quart. panels. They are so wide!

I looked into new OEM wheels. I'm very torn and also I'm curious on how good this person can refinish.
The real dumb issue I'm running into is ps4s vs v601 lol. I don't drive enough nor drive in the rain to benefit from ps4s. Also v601 looks nice as well.

Quality refinish is always a concern...it surely can be done, but there is a risk of dissatisfaction.

I'm on PS4s, but I didn't cross-shop them against any other tire. I've been running Pilot Sports on BMWs for 20+ years and have always been pleased with them. Others prefer Contis and other tires, but I just go with what I know...

AW was my second choice in color but it's so classic I love it. Good luck with your search, the "one" you want will pop up and you'll be ready

Love the powerful intro with a good story, nice updates, and great photos...only thing to keep in mind is some of your photos are tilted and we're breaking our necks looking at them

Looking forward to more updates.

1/23 Taking my ZCPs to get them done as close as hypersilver. I did buy new rubbers as well. Talked to the shop owner, he mentioned that black base - HS - clear coat will go on. I am excited to get them done and for the warmth to get here. Watching the car sit in the garage during the Winter here is brutal. Will update upon receiving them next week.

FYI: Tires are Advan V601 255/35/19 & 275/35/19 . Debated between ps4s and these, but came across an incredible deal on these for $800. With the amount of driving I do each year (2-3k miles) I couldn't justify 1400 for ps4s.

Wheels are back and on the car. Very mild Winter we are having.
Color looks better than I was expecting. Just waiting to see how durable their finish is over time. If the clear coat starts to peal etc. I will just order a new set and sell these. For now, I am more than happy with the color
