CAR SHUTS DOWN while at stop light.

So for 1 month my car has stopped at stop light, my engine just totally shuts off but all the lights are still on the dash... looks nothing weird but noticed that my car has been shutting down for no reason. I have replaced or used different gas CHEVRON and SHELL. I have used CHEVRON for the last 5 years and had never used any other gas other than shell thats if i dont have a choice.

anyways car currently not showing any engine light or codes wondering if anyone has had the same issue. car seems to be fine after it shuts down. I was curious what could it be.

EDIT:
YEAR 2008
No modification other than the slip on AKRA Exhaust.

Do the RPM's bounce? Try running 3 consecutive tanks of Techron gas treatment. My car did this, and it resolved my issue. (I always run top tier 93 as well)

If your RPM's bounce before it dies it might be your idle control valve. Do a search on the symptoms.

^ thinking this.

But I would imagine that the car would throw a code.

I am in the process of replacing my ICV, and my car threw a few codes when the car would have issues starting.

Good luck figuring it out.

Let us know what you find!

Yea i know about the icv i have replaced the bank 2 icv about 6 months ago and before i replaced it it never shut off... Im sure sooner or later a engine code will pop up but never heard or seen this issue here since ive been a member i guess ill have to wait til it throws a code

But for the meantime for about a month i have gone to 6 different gas station shell and chevron and both gas will do the same however if i add a TECHRON it works until my gas is down to zero... Then fill up with new gas then it starts again....

This only happens when the car is fully warm up...

Ill update my findings soon when the christmas lights comes on lol

When you refer to Bank 2 are you talking about a throttle actuator? AFAIK, there is only one IACV...

Correct, there is one ICV which is connected to both banks, and two separate actuators, one for each bank.

OP, do you have any misfire faults?

Does this happen only after you fill gas?

Mine used to to that until a replaced the fuel tank breather valve, there's a couple threads on that.

for what it's worth, just because you're not throwing a code doesn't mean there isn't one lurking in the ECU. Would get it read asap just in case.

yes, it's the gas. I've had the same problem in one particular gas station I go to, only that gas station BP. happened to the same as my friends car, at the same gas station.

Damn! My car just died the other day while at a stop light but otherwise runs fine and this was the first occurrence. How much do ICV's cost? And how many labor hours? Just planning ahead

so mine was weird like the car was stalling like the rpm jumped up a little and then it shut off. I checked and there were no codes, went to Sunoco and filled up, no problems.

Try changing gas station i change gas station and its now flawless been a week and half and so far no issues yea mine does the same shuts down like a start stop option but i have an 08 and dont have that option icv cost around 1500 for the parts but need to call McKenna to see how much they are the best BMW dealer that gives BMWpost discount but ill wait til that happens it should take at least 4 hours in labor but dealer will charge u more... When i did my throttle actuator dealer wanted 6 hours i did it in an hour and half so if your going to have the dealer do it expect for $$$$ ill let u know in a week or so so far car is running flawless no issues for a week and half. Usually it dies twice a day

If this is a fuel tank breather valve issue it will only stall within the first few minutes/miles after filling up (i.e. filling up and hitting an immediate long red light after leaving the gas station). Once you drive a little bit it seems like the window for this issue passes and the car will not have the erratic idle/stall until you fill up again.
