Can an 18 year old get a loaner from the dealer?

My 2007 335i has the well known "wastegate rattle", and I hear the fix might take up to a week according to some people on this board. I can't be without a car for that long. Does anyone know if an 18 year old would be eligible to receive a loaner from the dealer? I know back in Texas I couldn't rent a car from a company like Enterprise unless I was 21. Thank you!

I don't think so. Like you said, I think the minimum age is either 21 or 25 (like it is here).

My dealer wouldn't give me a bmw loaner when I wasnt 21, but they did give me a car from enterprise as long as I was in the insurance.

You need to be 25 to rent cars (or get a loaner car) in most places in CA. Not sure about other states.

Don't you have to be at least 25?

I believe it's dictated by state law. Not sure though.

Alot depends on whether or not the vehicle in for service is registered in YOUR name.

+1, if you owned the car and purchased it from the dealership yourself they would probably find a way to get you a loaner. Seeing as you are 18, there's probably a good chance it isn't in your name and nobody could blame them for wanting to stay away from an insurance nightmare after you wreck one of their new loaners (im sure you are an awesome driver tho, just like every 18 yr old out there).

the 25 rule is just an industry standard for renting cars, afaik... it may be a law in some states but I am under 25 and travel frequently and never have a problem renting a car wherever I go w/ enterprise.... corporate card gets them to waive any under25 fee they would have assessed as well.

It might depend if the loaner is from the dealer or from a rental company.

A very long time ago I brought in a MB for service, all I did was sign a paper and I was handed the keys. They didn't even check my driver's license. I was 19 at the time.

Yeah just depends on the service manager.
My first car was a Honda Passport that was in the shop more in the first 6 months then it was at my house. The service manager would give me a loaner car every time I brought it in.

Sure you can. If the service rep gives you crap... talk to the salesperson who sold you your car. I always make sure the dealer is willing to give me a loaner before I buy. So far so good. When I took my c-class in for service, they end up giving me a new s-class as a loaner cus they ran out. The sales even asked me to keep it for an extra 2 days. I was so impressed then I ended up ordering one.

In PA, you have to be 21 I think and bring proof of insurance.
