E93 Rear Headrest Removal plus roll over cover removal
Hated the large headrests in the rear of my E93, blocked my vision out back and I rarely have more than one passenger (I keep the windscreen installed).
Started by removing headrest (simply pull up): 3 torx screws hold roll over cover: Not that nice bare, so started with the painting: next week end will wet sand, clear coat and with small brush get bottoms. View from behind:

Not bad, used to drive my E46 M3 Vert like that because the top would get perilously close to the rear headrests when you opened/closed it. Didn't have to paint the bars though because they were black-rubberized in the E46, looked ok as-is. I like the black paint though.

Yeah I agree. Even though they are blacked out, it still looks unfinished.

I like the idea, but it seems like you might be able to unbolt the pieces and take it to a fab shop and have them roll you some bars that look more refined, then have them painted or finished however you want. Maybe chromed like a Mini Cooper?

"Yeah, it doesn't look good at all." because....
Plus you are a known E93 hater so, splain yourself! "Yeah I agree. Even though they are blacked out, it still looks unfinished." I agree, that is why i said I would wet sand, clear coat and with small brush get bottoms.

Besides, worst case, everything goes right back on. Other option is a custom cover since the black covers BMW supplies are partially unfinished.

Good job with the project but still looks much better with the headrests. Coming from former M3 vert owner for 5 years (not a hater)

Conceptually, I like where your head is at with the idea of removing the rear headrests - they can be annoying and aren't aesthetically pleasing, but I can't say I'm loving the exposed roll bars which look ok on a roadster but less so here in my opinion.
The plastic over the rollbars is arguably a slightly better look - particularly if you could front-plate the plastic in some fashion, or maybe craft some sort of tinted plastic/lexan piece to shield both hoops like with the 650 convertible rear window/wind deflector. +1 on Prince of Persia being a known e93 hater. |

"just leave the headrest on" why? they block my view and serve no purpose.
"The plastic over the rollbars is arguably a slightly better look" Don't disagree, will see what I can come up with. Can't fault a guy for trying something different. P.S., Driving to work today with the headrests gone and top up was great, much better view out back, so I can see whom I have dusted...

they're not headrests, they're head restraints. if you don't put them back on, please don't let anyone ride in the back seat lest you get rear ended and their head bang against that bar.

As I stated "I rarely have more than one passenger (I keep the windscreen installed)" Can't even remember last time I had more than 2 people in the car.

I don't think the view block is that bad, use your side mirrors if that it's bother you.

To each his own. I look at it this way, headrest use = 0, looking behind as i drive = all the time.
