Should I mod my car or my wrist?
I just bought my girlfriend an engagement ring and my jeweller had a great selection of watches for me to try on as well. So here's the deal, I can buy myself a great watch and get a fantastic deal considering I just dropped 15k on a ring, or I can spend the same money (about 7k) on the M. The watch I'm looking at is the Omega Planet Ocean Chrono 45.5mm.
What would you do? I'm also open to suggestions on the watch.

Didn't really have one in particular, just had a price range with a few different kinds (obviously not the high end watches lol!) I figured I'd spend some money on modding my car. You should do the same.
I'm going with an x-pipe with hfcs and getting CF stuff..don't do everything at once, spread it out over time. It'll keep you more satisfied

Go for it!
I bought the non-chrono last year and threw on a custom strap.

Rolexes are boring, IMO. For $7k I'd be looking at Panerai or IWC. I also think the Omegas are a reasonable buy (I also own a PO) and the 45.5 is a great looking watch.

I have the same Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph but with the black bezel and the orange stitching. It's a great watch and well worth it. I sometimes look at it and ponder at the amount of mods I could have done to my car but I don't regret it at all. A fine watch is a must in a man's collection of things.

i am a die-hard watch buff, so i would say a watch, however not the watch you chose, but you have to wear it. depends what you like and how many watches you own,
7k is steep for that watch and omegas in general too me, except their more rare and advance pieces (they had a nice co-axial one but was 18k in cad) Last edited by niqui; 08-02-2009 at 01:04 PM.. |

I have a Omega Titanium Seamaster and I really enjoy it. The Planet Ocean is a sweet watch. I personally think having a nice watch or two is worth it. They last a long time and generally don't go out of style so you will get a lot of use out of it!
I would check out timezone.com they have a ton of information and you can see a lot of wrist shots of different watches before you make your decision. It's been awhile but 7K seems a little high, generally you can get pretty decent discounts on Omegas. |

Can you make a decision by yourself!.do you really need to ask? Let me tell you if your future wife sees this you will be one of these guys who let their wife run the show while they are making the money. Take your own decisions and face the consequences if you make a mistake ...this what it takes to be a MAN...

I'm not a fan of any jewelry. My father & mother in-law bought me a $5-6k Rolex as a wedding gift to me, and I don't wear it too often. Although it's a very nice gift, I don't appreciate it as much.
I'm 110% towards investing in mods. You can't beat the satisfaction of how much difference it all makes on the car afterwards. |

Also, watches and cars go together: they are both technical / mechanical items. This is not true for mainstream bauble-type jewellery. It's interesting to note in better car mags, such as "CAR", that there are a lot of watch ads. These items go together for the passionate aficionado. My 2c.

That watch retails for less than $6k, and you can probably get it new for $4k elsewhere, so $7k certainly isn't a "fantastic" deal, especially since you're dropping so much on the engagement ring.
Omega makes very nice watches, and I'm a fan of their designs, but if you're going to spend that much on a watch, get a Jaeger (my favorite), IWC, Panerai, or similar quality piece for the same price. The movements on Jaegers, for example, are stunning works of art. Or you can spend a few thousand less $2k - $4k and still get a very nice mechanical watch that will last you forever and some mods for your M3. While a watch can be a good financial investment, this particular watch is not. What's great about a quality watch like this, however, is that even if it won't greatly appreciate in value, it's still a good investment in yourself because it's something you can enjoy for a lifetime. Every man should have at least 1 or 2 quality mechanical timepieces. Voltigeur is right on -- good watches and cars go together. They're both art and technical precision blended together. You can tell a lot about a person by the car he drives and the watches he wears.
