Michelin Pilot Sport 2 WOES.

So Ill keep this short. Car is 2011 with 15 k miles.

Two weeks ago the valet pulls my car up at a friends house with an almost flat tire -->Drive it to gas station to fill it up a bit --> Drive it to Braman BMW 3 miles away. I needed the car that day so I just had them put a new PS2 on as the nail that punctured it was practically through the sidewall -__- . $550 later or so I drove away with 1 new rear tire, all other tires with 15k miles. Yes, mad. ORdered a $350 PS2 from tirerack that same day and got it mounted that week so I at least had two new rears.

Fast Forward. Last night I get out of dinner, drive away and notice my low tire pressure light blinking and feel it in the right rear shortly after. Tire was punctured by a knife or sharp skinny object, not a road hazard , and I just got the car towed to BMW today.

Its safe to say i just cannot afford to keep purchasing these damn tires and since the fronts have about 5-10k miles left on them, I will be having to spend 600$ or more to get fronts soon. I am thinking about just replacing all the tires as it is rainy season and the fronts this close to the wear bars are just not AS safe going 60+ mph in rainy weather.

Does anyone have exp with these tires here? click link -->

Also, Has anyone had a tire REPLACE by BMW and it been damaged within 30 days? My service center is closed but maybe someone can let me know if theyve gotten this service to give me some financial hope lol. Please discuss and let me know if im crazy to leave the PS2 etc...

PS: Keep the, if you cant afford good tires dont drive an m3 comments out. Its not my fault i live in a city flooded with thugs, gangsters, and assholes. WEll, it is, but im not moving lol

When I bought my car the BMW Wheel & tire package was something crazy like $1300. I went straight to Discount tire and bought tire coverage for $192 for all four tires. You don't have to buy your tires from them to buy coverage. Best $200 I ever spent.

Really? sounds great!

Maybe I will just go ahead and get a new PS2 for the left rear and that tire warranty. Problem is, my fronts are pretty old so Im just going to go ahead and replace them as well within the next month or so. Thankfully they are a bit cheaper than the rears. If I make some good cash and save I may just get new wheels and tires altogether by the summer

i know you still have one brand new ps2, but one suggestion i'd make is to switch to the PSS. they are better and less expensive than the ps2. of course, they are no more resistant to punctures.

Would it be okay to run 2 PSS fronts with two PS2 rears for the life of the rears? Car will not be tracked, just sprited driving and yes, lots of rain driving but im always careful.

i think it should be fine, especially under those conditions. as long as the pair match it shouldn't cause any problems.

Okay cool. Well we'll see. If i can save money I'll try to just ride the fronts out for a couple months and keep it off the highways in the rain until I can save for new wheels and tires. Would be a dream come true for my car. Thinking te37 SLs!! Just cant decide between form+function look of 18s and non staggered, or that extra pop of the 19s. Hard to say when Ive never seen real ones in person -___-

I was told by Michelin that they don't recommend running PSS and PS2 even if its a F/R combination. I got all PS2s since PSS don't come in 20" sizes that work.

Regarding the Continental tires, they are good tires. Not as good performance wise as PS2s but it's good enough since that's what a lot of cars at the BMW Performance Center in SC were running.

Yea i had them on my e46. Id say their grip level in dry compared would be 7/10 and the ps2s are about 8.5/10. Was great owning the tire though

Treadwear on PS2s?

I have a 2011 M3 Sedan with comp. pkg. Live in Boston area, so use winter wheels and tires during the snow season. Went to have my winters changed back to the summers last Friday and the original PS2s were already under the legal limit according to the tire place (Direct Tire). I have done at most 10k miles on these tires, and don't track or drive super aggressive....Does this sound abnormal? Looking at getting the Super Sports to replace the OEM PS2s, but pretty fed up that I need new tires at just 10k miles....

Looks like I'm just going to pay 460$ to have a new tire put on

Im trying to get new wheels/tires in a few months so I just don't feel like going all out and replacing all 4. Pissed right now.

That was my setup all winter as my front PS2's were still in good shape. I wasn't pushing the car hard anyway. Now that it's summer, I got PSS on all 4 corners. DIdn't notice a difference.

If money is tight in the future and you really don't drive your car 10/10 all the time, I'd recommend switching to Hankook Ventus V12's in the future. They are great tires for the money.

Thanks for the input. Im either going to go with those or the Continental DW. I had them on my e46 and other than than being a little slicker in the dry, they were steller and BETTER than the PS2 everywhere else. Maybe not in noise level, but i forget lol

+1 on the Conti DW. They're also ridiculously lightweight.

Ridiculously lightweight because the sidewalls are extra thin. The DW is a great gripping tire but not great for steering response. Depending on driving style the DW or the V12 make great alternatives to PS2 for a lot less.

Ah, Thakns for the info. Wish i didn't get 1k worth of tires slashed in the last month. would be super nice to have started my modding adventure. Have spacers/springs/test pipes in my apt living room and I'm getting more antsy every day

+1. I just made the switch from PS2 to PSS. I needed rears and the dealership quoted $950 for the PS2s including mounting, balancing, tax, etc... Needless to say I laughed. I went home and researched the PSS tires on here and Car and Driver. Many people including Car and Driver preferred the PSS to the PS2. I ended up getting all four tires replaced at a local shop for about $1150. I actually think they grip better. But then again I could be just convincing myself of that. Good luck!
