Ordered a E92 M3 - Should I add the Smarthphone Integration and Alarm?

Submitted the paperwork for my 2011 M3 order and wanted to get your guy's input. The car is fully loaded except for the factory alarm and smarthphone integration.

If you were in my position would you get these two additional options? Any reasons not to get them?

BTW I have an iPhone 3GS

Thanks!

I think Smartphone is pointless. Bluetooth works just fine, and the iPod connection allows you full access over your music library.

Concur. I see little point in the Smartphone option. I did think the alarm option a bit more worthwhile though.

I would absolutely get the smart phone option. That is the ony way to have access to both your phone and the music on your iPhone. I don't have it and i regret it.

I couldn't agree more, it's a must have for the iPhone.

Best regards,

Why isn't anyone responding to the "factory alarm" part?

Are you getting an aftermarket alarm? If not, why wouldn't you get it from the factory on a $70k car?

I'll run with that one. I know that most people go with an alarm, but I've never really seen the point on a BMW with an electronically coded key. No one pays any attention to alarms anymore, and it's exceedingly difficult to start your car without the key coded for it. That electronic coding is essentially the same as an ignition-kill alarm, except without the honking and flashing. I chose not to spend the money on an alarm, and haven't thought twice about it. Besides, most folks will assume you have an alarm when your lights flash on locking anyway....

Would anyone be kind enough to post a picture of the storage with the smartphone integration and without?

On an older '08 model...

Again, my '09 works FINE with the iPhone plugged in to the iPod jack.

You can play music with the iPhone cable just fine but it's a thick cord and rather unpleasant to work with.

I much prefer the smartphone cradle because it snaps into place and doesnt slide around.

You've already added every other option so why not these? Automatic Highbeams isn't that great in my opinion but I assume you are ordering it.

I would get 6NF, Smartphone Integration, without any hesitation if you have an iPhone. I like it so much if I get a Mini daily driver I will get it on that too. You pop the phone in and you have charging, antenna, and iPod function just like that. Sure the iPod cable gives you almost that and the phone operation is Bluetooth anyway but this cradle option is sweet. And yes the ability to access the external antenna, even though it's through a passive radiator, seems to work.

I would get the alarm because even with the coded key technology someone might still mess with your car, in your own driveway too perhaps, and $400 might make a bad situation a little less bad.

So do I, but the iPhone's not connected to the shark fin antenna and it's somewhat a hassle to connect and to put the iPhone in the compartment case. For this reason I think the 6NF is a must have and I'm still annoyed that BMW doesn't offer a retrofit option.

BTW: I'd also add the Alarm, but that might be a tougher decision. I'm not sure if it would prevent any thief, but it's good to be able to tell if the alarm went off when you come back to the car.

Best regards,
south

If I'm not mistaken, I dont think BMW offers a retrofit alarm option anymore either. I think only the Feb or Mar 09 MY are retrofittable...Not sure but I remember reading that here somewhere. (I had a retrofit alarm for my 09 in Feb, PITA and prob. more expensive)
If thats the case, make sure you decide now on the alarm.

Regarding using the shark fin as antenna, I remember reading someone testing this out and did not find the shark fin provided better reception. If you want to take advantage of the smartphone integration you also need to dock and undock it every time you get in/out of the car, and many people have found it a hassle.

I find that the smartphone option is good only if you have an iPhone. I can see a difference in signal strength/dropped calls having it docked and not.

I got the alarm this time around. I hated not knowing, without the confirmation beep, whether I had locked the doors. $300 is a non-brainer to me for a factory install.

My biggest annoyance with the car because I have tinted windows and sometimes can't tell if I locked it with the comfort access. I wanted the alarm, but got caught in the 09 factory delete of alarm prewire. Get the alarm!

Get the alarm it'll pay for itself in the long run. I have the 09' and I've been wanting the alarm, no my options are limited by not having if I wanted to eventually get it. Save the money now and invest the 300.....later on you'll have to buy the piece and then pay for labor plus the removal of panels and what not then panels not sitting back where they used to be. Save the headache and plus you insurance will get a deduction for having it.
