Considering the weight of the car, the performance of it is not bad, but why would Audi build such a heavy car. Its meant to be a high performance car at a reasonable price, but its completely missed that purpose. Its overweight and overpriced.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment...
: Most automotive journalists spend a good part of their lives at a race track testing cars, and pushing them to 9 or 10 tenths of their full potential. Its only a natural response for them to prefer cars that perform well on a track. : The M3 (which i think is a fantastic car) is really in its natural habitat on a track. RWD, great steering feedback, a rearend that will step out on demand and remain compliant through a corner, perfect balance. Its going to WIN on the track every time. : Heavy cars like the RS5 (GTR being the exception) aren't going to perform well on a race track. IMHO, in the real world where most drivers will rarely ever see 9 tenths in an M3 or RS5 the results of such comparison tests should be taken with a grain of salt. The RS5's chassis may not be happy at 10 tenths, but in the real world it may be perfect for most drivers. Two competent drivers in these cars on the street might yield a very different result. The power and grip of the RS5 might be preferred over the high strung, high revving nature of the M3 on the street. You really need a lot of seat time in an M3 to appreciate how the steering, throttle, and rear end are hard wired, whereas in an Audi you don't have be a great driver to make the thing go fast. |

I wonder if people in the audi forums talk about losing to m3 all the time. At least we talk about it because we win all the time, but like what do they post on their homepage: "RS5 comes in 3rd out of 5"...not so much good news haha

The RS5 is a pretty sick car though. Nice curves and the LED lights sets it off.

Unlike footie, I admit that stock for stock, the M3 is a better all around sports car than its competitors. However, I do like the fact that you can drop the hammer in the C63 AMG and pretty much obliterate the M3 and RS5.

I just don't understand here all bmw fans
I have 03 b6 A4 3.0 q and 09 R57 mini cooper S conv, and 10 E92 m3 AW... I know M3 is best and enough but you know? At bad weather like heavy rain and snowy, my dealer send SMS - don't drive M3!!!!! Do You all guys here live in race track?and are you all racer? Can you draw all performance of M3 in every day and just public road not race track? How many man here can drive M3 intense without hesitation? Do you have some experience of tail spin at crowd public road with bad condition with M3? What is purpose of automobile?just for fun?just for speed? The fundamental of purpose of automobile is transferring man and other things from one place to another with safty and quickly in all road condition. How many times do you push M3 to limit speed in public road with confidence of not spinning in curved corner? When snowy day, I couldnot even start M3 at parking lot but my audi? A4 could get me my hospital.. Huge fan of here make me some sick though... Again I know M3 is best in class but the ranking can be totally different in bad road condition.. Also I am so disappointed at Audi, - why they give up strong engine? and poorest A/S, poorest dealer in our country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Footie,
Your complaint about the M3 was the S65 and it's lack of torque yet what the RS5 has is a more High-strung version of the RS4's/R8's V8. This said V8 has a very similar power delivery to the S65 and only 200cc more displacement....... kinda hard for it to be a torque monster as an NA 4.2 V8 with an 8500 Redline. Face it Audi gave too little too late..... and I am not an Audi Hater at all..... In fact I like Audi's. The RS5 is an awesome car but it just can't trump the M3..... A car which is 4 model years old might I add. I like the fact that you love and are passionate about Audi's but you make me laugh when you come in here and talk them up...... I think secretly you wish you had your M3 back. |

I seriously doubt that the Audi engineers and marketing personnel are stupid. They know exactly what they have built, and you can be sure they will sell every one of these that they make, at a nice premium.
Audi's not going for record lap times here. They're going for speed, luxury, sophisticated and dramatic style, detailed engineering (e.g. their classic fluid damped "oh-shit" handles) and technology (quattro, sport rear diff). And by now means is it a slow car. My point is they never set out to try and beat the M3 at its own game. Instead, they've made an alternate type of vehicle at around the same price point, that's going to attract its fair share of enthusiastic buyers. And to the poster that said BMW fans are the problem, that's so 2008. According to none other than Top Gear, Audi is the new BMW in that respect. |

If we forget all of the numbers for a sec, even though M3 came out on top...Just look at the M3 ZCP, leagues better looking than the RS5. Aggressive, yet classy. It looks perfectly designed in that magazine pic, good god. Don't tell me looks are subjective and all that bullshit. It's better looking and that is a fact.
I will never sway from the BMW camp, it's not because I am a fanboy, well I guess I am...but rather I can't help but to gravitate towards the best. Although, I must give it up to Audi, for the only thing they did better than BMW with the RS5. The seats. Holy living fuck they are amazing. |

It has really happend ... in one issue the german car magazin "AudiBild" makes an big sportscar comparison in different classes ... in the saloon/coupe class they take as sportiest car from BMW the 335i and tested it against the RS5 ... and the RS5 takes the win ... as the ultimate sportscar in his class!!!
