Front only Stoptech ST40 kit

Anyone run a front only stoptech st40 kit? I'm concerned about ruining the brake bias with running stock rear brake rotors/calipers.

Read the StopTech site. The Conti GS (as opposed to GT cars that run with the DPs)cars run front ST-60 trophy and rear OEM calipers as per rules.

As long as the front is stronger than the rear, you should be alright. When the back locks up and the front is still rolling is when you get into deep doo-doo (cf J-turn - cool in films, not cool on the front straight at VIR). Anyhow, the technical section of StopTech takes you though this.

So I would order a set of rs19s for the stoptech and a set for the rear oem calipers.

Also I'm assuming these will clear oem zcp wheels correct?

The ST-40 kit will have no problems with the OEM ZCP wheels. (Will fit the OEM 18" Wheels as well).

I had thought about doing these on my previous M3 to use the 18" OEM wheels for the track and also to clear my winter wheels.

This article may help.

To your question, yes. Typically people use the same brake pad compound on the front and rear axles, or at least that's a good starting point before trying another combo.

Great. I will be using 18" track wheels and 18" winter wheels so glad they work.

Interesting topic. So if you were to do front only, would it be better to go with ST-40 or ST-60? Does the extra size and cost of the ST-60 really gain you that much here?

To put the question another way -- is it likely that you'll out drive the ST40 front w/ race pads? Probably not.

If cost is a consideration, then go ST40. Cost and fitment no concern, then ST60.

I've not heard anyone say that they found the ST40 kit insufficient. Turner uses ST40 kit f & r on their Grand Am M3.

I have a track buddy that runs the st60 front only and that car is one of the fastest e92 M3s out there. I would say go for it and the rears are not needed.

I'll echo Prime; a guy with a full on race car e92 had st60's all around and then removed the rears in favor of oem. That, to me, says it all.

The other good thing about the ST40s is IF you are running R-Comps or slicks you can run 17" apex wheels.

I say R-Comps because there are not many extreme performance tires in 275/40R17.
