Yes and at the time you typed that, it was 1 in 5 M3 people who had chimed in had clicked on GTR. I think I'm starting to understand why the Carrera vs. M3 thread shaped up the way it did.

Maybe some people aren't reading the title correctly. PERFORMANCE- M3 vs These Models.

I like to think my car (E90 M3) out performs A LOT of cars in it class, even other classes, and even some more expensive than this one. But I'm not blind to the facts. And the fact is, as much as we'd like, theres still a TON of cars out there that will out perform this one. PERFORM being the keyword.

Superior performance in what categories? because depending on that the answer may be "none of the above"

I am not scared of making my vote public (Flame suit on):

M3 > {Aston Martin, Porsche C2, Cayman S, Boxster S, Mustang GT500, Lotus Exige, M5 & M6}

Of course, not always due to raw power but also balance, breaking, etc...

So how delusional am I??

IF you have driven each of those cars that you've mentioned, then maybe you're not as delusional. The problem with this poll is most people if not all probably or more than likely haven't driven all of those cars. So it would be mostly by opinion and even maybe a bias one. And what category of performance are we talking about, any specific or particular category or overall performance. And lets not forget that these cars are not all in the same level with each other and not the same level with the M3. My answer is none of the above.

Is it possible to show the people that voted, franly it would help greatly to determine who actually knows what they are talking about and worth discussing things with and the others which have yet to start shaving or given up on their mother's breast.

I started the thread so I'm not mistaking my own thread title with my comments on the family issue. I doubt anyone is. The responses show what forum members think, and goes a long ways in explaining how many other M3 vs. .... threads end up as they do here.

Guys this is about performance not just overall. Sure the m3 is more comfy than a few of those but we're talking performance here!

The E92 M3's performance didn't ever surpass that of the E46 M3 CSL. This is probably because BMW stepped up performance and luxury about the same, and ended up loosing about all gained with the additional heft. I wouldn't pit it up against most on the list for out and out thrills or performance. The M3 CST should be a different story, but it has no creature comforts; therefore it's in a class of very few. All I can say is I hope I can retrofit the CST brakes on my Z4 M and E46 M3!

Unfortunately, threads like these ending up being nothing else but high school pep rallies.

And it's ironic how the same people will complain about the automotive press as being biased....

I can't tell wether some people picked some of the choices in the poll just to stir the pot, or because they are truly confused.

I took the poll to mean performance, as based on an actual around the circut performance with the average of 1 flying lap. I specified a one lap scenario because when counting all the stock set-ups, the M3 will quickly cook the (stock) brakes when driven at the limit.

my picks: M3 > ...

Aston Martin V8 Vantage
While one can't argue the disarming beauty of this car, it's first iteration with V8 was not a strong performer. It makes a great sound, but I guess its lacking the chassis to make it around a track quickly.

Porsche C2 (997.2)
Just a little too down on power compared to the M3, but also down on weight. They are both very close, the M3 might get the slight edge on a one lap bonanza. The Porsche is definately the more rewarding car to drive.

Porsche Cayman S (2009+)
Porsche Boxster S (2009+)

I grouped these two together. Technically brilliant from all aspects. Sublime handling, supremely controlable, sharp, confidence inspiring.... but held back by the engine. If these cars came with 50 more hp, the GT3 might be in some trouble. Personal opinion.

Mustang GT 500
Tire smoking power, also tends to break IRS suspension.. so they gave it a solid rear, and a solid curb weight to match. This is a great 1/4 mile rocket, but not much else in my eyes.

E60 M5
M6

Beatiful sound from the V10, brake cooking weight...basically, slower than the slightly smaller, lighter, and now younger M3 sibling.

You're not delusional at all. In fact, your picks nearly mirrored mine. I have owned the CaymanS and the E60M5. I have personally driven the Porsche C2 (own the C2S) and have been the passenger in an Exige and GT500. I doubt the AM compares.

The Exige is "iffy" on a short course. On a track of any length, it's toast.

I'm pretty sure the delusion references have to deal with some of these cars getting any votes...GTR, Z06 or even the number of votes the c2s, turbo, california, c6 got. In a performance thread these shouldn't be getting any votes as being inferior to the m3 in performance. Understandably cars like the m5/m6/exige/cayman/etc will have votes simply because there are aspects where the car is better and worst than the m3 in, but for a car like the GTR or Z06 which will handily beat the m3 in any performance category (unless you count trunk *******, this poll is a joke.

Now we know who the diehard M3 fanboys are. Possible to make poll show user names as well?
