Playa Del carmen/Cancun

Posted/asked this on mexico forum already.
Anyone here ever drive a performance oriented car down there?
I'm thinking of moving there, but after seeing the humps and bumps I'm not so sure I'de wanna bring the M. I can manage to slow down and go over them , but I would punch myself for not seeing some of the round metal bumps in the dark or rain or whatnot....

15 years ago PDC was awesome. European/Yucatan fusion restaurants and lounge bars on the beach...with very small boutique hotels and some dive shops. That was about it. Now it's a commercialized arm pit with Burger Kings and Starbucks that stinks like shit everwhere because they can't manage the raw sewage.

And your car will get broken into all the time and yes there are speed bumps so get a POS SUV and you will be fine. Nobody cares about cars down there.

A LOT of roads down there are really bad. I would not take a car like your M3 there. it would be rattled/bludgeoned to death by the streets, and how the heck would you maintain it!?

Fifteen years ago when I went through there ( like countless adventurers who thought they were so cool ) from a stay in Chiapas, I thought it was awesome too. And believe it the kcuf or not , I still do, just like my favorite bands and my heavy as shit , non-indy , non-E30 and oh so commercialized Porky bitch of a E92.
My best friends are down there , non of witch drive sports cars for that matter, and this legit question came to mind nonetheless .
Maybe if I find an undiscovered Island and ''longboard'' the shit out of it , I will come to open my hardcore coolness third eye someday .
Until then , I'll just accept anyone's comments on the " driving a sports car in playa del carmen" 's physical experience ,and will appreciate it.
And I will bother about getting broken into like a big boy .
Cheers anyhow .

Well, I didn't mean to be a downer and there are still a number of gems along that coastline...particularly south down to Belize that are incredible. Good luck with your relocation.

I'm not pretty sure cause you are in Canada. But you know what, I'll be happy if I can get my hands on any SUV, especially like GMC or Toyota. Just keep it low.

Love PDC, went there to dive and stayed at a place right on the beach - heaven. Yea, some commercial areas, but nothing like Cancun IMO. I'd go back to PDC in a heartbeat, and it was pretty inexpensive as well.

Roads were horrid and people would for sure jack that car down there. Not sure if it's a great idea to bring anything like that down there - get a nice SUV.

I drove extensively through PDC and the surrounding countrysides last February. I was down there for almost 3 weeks.

From my experience the roads are fine, especially around town.. I saw several very nice cars cruising around. Obviously I wouldn't leave the car overnight in random parking lots but if your aware of your surroundings and have a safe place to park at night, I think it would be fine. The other consideration is that theres not tons of parking, but if your familiar with the town you can find a place to park. There also so many armed military personnel everywhere I think it would make someone think twice

THere is something to be said about having a car that doesn't get as much attention. I think a nice SUV would be more enjoyable as well.

Just got off the phone, he says its fine just to be careful and memorise the speed bump locations. He also said to make sure you dont go anything lower that 1 inch from factory since speed bumps are quite high.

I have a PH in Cancun, BVG towers, I used to rent a Vette when I was there but there are bumps that look like mountains and aren't notice well, which means that at night sometimes you fly!!! I bought a 2003 H2 to use when I go there and solved the problem!

Other than the bumps cancun and playa del carmen, well the whole state of Quintana Roo has float issues...so a high vehicle is a must!
