100% DONE - Connecting Rod Bearing Replacement (First DIY Team Work on the planet)

Hello guys,

I am so excited to announce that I am doing the DIY of the rod bearing replacement with forum member SYT_Shadow with his brother. They are going to fly here when I receive the parts and we will go to DIY garage to replace the bearings and you guys also will see the process and the pictures here

And I also would like to ask anyone who really wants to replace the rod bearings can join us. Since they are here they can fit in one more vehicle.

They do not do this for living so it will be really fun to do together. And since they are very knowledgeable and experienced I think it is a great opportunity for someone who babies his/her car and do not want anyone to touch without seeing it

I was about to let one of the most reliable and experienced shop to do the job, since we were not sure with this process, But I talked to them recently and I cancel my appointment with the shop and go for the DIY.

Somehow I was just so drawn to do the DIY in this process and it was very hard for me to go to Shop even they are fantastic in my area!

Well I am so happy and excited for the process and cant wait to meet and see the OPEN SURGERY right in front of me

Figure out and document the "no fan removal" shortcut. I did the job before someone said that was possible. On my first job, I dropped the subframe. On my second job, I just let it hang. When I do this again in a couple of years, I want it to be even simpler.

DIY without Fan removal will be $35 + PPF

I'm south of West Palm, I assume you guys are doing it at Garage Yourself in Miami?

Please keep me posted, I will come lend a hand or atleast come to hang out.
I'm planning to do mine sometime in January when I get back from Vacation.

Yeap. I also have one member on the line who wants to see and help during the process. I called the garageyourself to have some information about the project. First of all he sound really good. And he said it is including all the air tools and engine hoist in the lift rental price. So that is a plus eveb we will go there with our tools!

And he said I usually not allow more than 2 people to work under the car but since you will watch the process and also be around so you guys can work 3 people but not more than that. He said the reason is the place will be tight so you cant work too good with more than 2 people.

So if you guys come over it would be hard to see the process while they are working under the car

I've been there, the standard set of tools he gives you is very basic, I would bring my own ratchet, sockets and wrenches. You can borrow the more specialty tools and air tools from him but you gotta ask for them and 'check' them out so to speak. Only he is allowed to operate the lift, so each time you need to go up or down you need to wait for him (At least that is what he told me when I first went there, even after I told him I worked at a shop for years). When he is helping other customers, you do have to sometimes wait a few minutes.

Also just checking, you said engine hoist? I don't think you plan to use a cherry picker type hoist do you? Not sure if he has the Engine Support Bar, but that is the one you want, hopefully he didn't misunderstand your request.

I'll hang out outside and bring my Zoom lense, lol!

If you get tired of the south Florida lifestyle, I'm doing my third rod bearing job on 12/29 in Vegas. GL getting a flight into Vegas though...NYE is a bit of an event here.
