And add another $12 for a filter. You didn't mention the filter so you probably didn't think it was important

No mention of this in this post means it's not that important ?
Nah, not that important. Figure we'll just throw'em in there and see what happens. The Jiffy Lube guy says he's done plenty of these, should be fine.

I heard if you take it to one of the valvoline quick lubes they'll actually cut the bottom of the oil pan out to get to the bearings, thus saving you a ton in labor....

So are most people using stock bolts now?

What do you guys use at AutoTalent for bolts?

We recommend the BE-ARP rod bolts. But we will install OEM if the customer prefers.

I thought BE recommends stock bolts.

BE worked with ARP to create a custom rod bolt with different torque spec that minimizes the bore distortion. It's not an off-the-shelf ARP rod bolt. BE added that to the group buy about half way through. The update also appeared at the BE wiki page on rod bolts.

Does it make sense to do preventative r/b replacement on a pampered 2013 e92 M3 with 50k miles? I plan to keep this car forever.

You should read the threads and decide for yourself. Most of these cars are still on their original bearings, but most cars that have had bearings changed showed badly worn bearings. The odds are on your side. But we pay to insure against unlikely odds.

I changed my bearings at 60k when I was out of warranty since I could not afford a new or used motor but could afford $600 in parts and could do the labor myself. My bearings actually looked pretty good compared to most that have been posted and I think they would have lasted another few years. The only aspect that worried me was copper showing around the parting lines and also a little bit along the edge of some bearings. I am not sure what would have happened over time because of those wear through areas.

Wish I'd seen that post before I used OEM bolts with my BE Bearings. Oh well, what's done is done and hopefully they'll do the job for many years to come. So is there any evidence to prove that using eom bolts is actually a bad idea?

No, there is nothing wrong with the OEM bolt

Thanks Kawasaki... That'll help be sleep better tonight! :-)

FYI my bearings showed a bit of copper after 62,000km so I'm glad I did them and am pleased to be back on 10w60 too!

So the be bearing rod bolts are the same as the ones VAC sells? They just say to torque them to 50ft/lbs instead of 45?

So it sounds like these bolts were made to specs that match this engine and bearing combo? And I assume they're easier to torque?

It's a personal decision. The newer engines have the harder bearings that don't seem to show wear metals before the engine blows. That's what makes me nervous.

VAC is also using some special ARP bolts.

Any ARP bolt is easier to torque than stock bolts due to the torque series and sequences required for new stock bolts. I have installed both.

How long have these bearings been on the market? Curious to see any higher mileage examples of the increased clearance versions.
