M3 trunk badge removal DIY?

Is there a thread or explanation on how to remove the M3 trunk badge properly?

If youre putting on a new black emblem, make sure you apply painters tape around the original badge to get the alignment right on the new one. Than heat the badge for a short period with a blow dryer, and run a piece of dental floss across the back of the badge which breaks off the double sided tape. Than just clean off any left over adhesive.

This is how I did it.

It was a much easier process than I thought.

Just be sure to use dental floss (and not sewing thread )

trunk is a bitch.....hood is easier.
go to drug store and pick up unwaxed dental floss.....works better!
dont use these though.....it dont work too good.

Dental floss might work for the M3 badge because it's small, but it's not strong enough. I use fishing line with much better results .

I just removed the badge; no need to show off. Looks like crap . Besides, there're already M3 badges on the side markers; more than enough. Plus the exhaust tips are a dead giveaway for people who know what an M3 is .

+1, I'm not a fan of badges //M or otherwise, I love the debadge look, so euro..

Anyhow, three things for debadge.

Blowdryer, dental floss/fishing line, and goo gone.

Goo gone will strip the wax so be ready to reapply once you're done.

DO NOT USE GOOF OFF. This will strip your paint.

Uhhhh, every Euro spec M I've seen is badged. In fact most cars I've seen here are badged. Not quite as heavily as a US spec car, but a bare ass is very rare.

I'm talking about euro cars in general, not Ms.

In any event, debadge>badges IMHO.

Perhaps its mostly Mercedes/Audi/BMWs that are debadged in Europe.

I'll try to pay more attention tomorrow on the way in to work and get back to you. I will say off the top of my head Audis do seem to have less badging where VWs are pretty much the same as the US. Weird since they're under the same umbrella.

I've actually gone back to a more OEM look. My last Passat (a pretty sweet variant if I do say so myself ) was debadged, smoothed rub strips and rear emblem, shaved antenna, color-matched tails/mirror markers, etc. and it was actually...boring after a while. It lost some of it's character. Sure the new paint made up for a lot of it but if I was to do it again I'd leave the rub strips at a minimum.

I might have to dig up some pics.

This was super easy for me. First, I placed painter's tape around the badge so I retained its location. Next, I found a piece of plastic banding material on my garage floor from an office chair box. I used it to saw through the foam part of the double-sided tape holding the ///M 3 badge. It cut through like butter, and I was left with a dark grey foam ///M 3 logo, which peeled right off in whole pieces, no residue (might have been the cooler temp that helped). Slapped the new badge on and I was done.

Not a single M car for sale at the big BMW dealer in Munich had the rear M badge on it. Three weeks of seeing this is making me remove mine when my car arrives.

Just did my badge - instructions here worked like a charm. Automotive masking tape + blowdry for 30 seconds, then floss to remove old badge. Then clay bar with lubricant to remove grime and residue, then apply the new!

where did you get the badge from? it looks like real nice - is it black chrome? kind of like the M edition grills?

It's the standard chrome badge bought from getbmwparts.com - it just looks that way because of the lighting.

Floss or fishing line works well. There is an attachment you can get for a drill that is called a pinstripe remover or adhesive eraser or rubber eraser. Like this -- costs about $10-$15 and lasts for years.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/3...612/10070229-P

Works great for removal of stick on residue.

Bumping an old thread instead of starting something new for such a basic question:

My M3 came de-badged, I'd like to add an OEM M3 emblem back on there, so does anyone have any measurements on exact location/spacing?

I've been looking at images trying to nail it but I thought I'd ask before I just go in blind.

Does BMW include the template if you buy the emblem? Some manufacturers do.

If not, I can try to get a measurement for you tomorrow.
