Supercharged and "still under warranty"
For those of you that have decided to supercharge your cars, but are still under the 50k mile factory warranty, where do you go for regular service and maintenance? I would assume that you don't just stroll into the dealer and drop your car off for regular service (engine related or not).
Thanks in advance as I will soon have my SC on the way! |

Why not go to the dealer? I take mine to the dealer. They know what's up and will be able to figure out that your car was SC'd, in the unlikely event of a catastrophic failure.

I figured that I would just take mine to the dealer, but I was curious if people had the dealer sevice their engine regularly.

The key is a strong relationship with your service adviser. Many of our clients head to our local dealer for any necessary warranty work with no issues. Our local dealer is very familiar with ESS kits and understands that the kit will not contribute to component failure, and so the guys there are perfectly willing to service supercharged cars.
Some dealers are great, and some are awful from a service and warranty standpoint. Ultimately the dealers that understand the fact that most M3 enthusiasts who modify their cars are very brand-loyal and will likely purchase more BMW cars in the future are the dealers that will achieve long term success.

No matter how strong of a relationship you have with your dealer..they are not going to overlook a blower if something goes wrong and needs fixing..thats just reality.

For regular maintenance as long as it is in within BMW's service intervals shouldn't be a problem. As its has been said before, a good relationship with a service advisor goes a long way to ensure both sides get a fair deal.

Thanks! Unfortunately my regular gas stations only do 91, but I have a few that sell 100 octane for $7.999/gallon. Vt2-625 is good to go with 91

I'm no boy scout and I haven't owned a car in decades that wasn't surgically enhanced but I went in eyes open. The bottom line is most dealers will fix that power mirror, do the maintenance, etc. no issues whatsoever. Choose your parts carefully, pay attention to what associated parts can handle, you probably dont break anything. On the other hand you run into the thing you REALLY want that warranty for like that aforementioned new engine and its not going to be the dealer that decides anything, it will be that regional rep and he will say no. On the corvette forums the saying is anyone who mods their car should be capable and prepared to be their own warranty station. Its no less true here, you do these things you should be prepared to face consequences however unlikely. |
