335i vs 2008 M3

Can anyone explain how I should compare a stock 335i vs. stock 2008 M3, or direct me to some information comparing the two stock versions?
I'm trading in a 2007 335i for a new M3 which should arrive any day now. I love my 335i, and have only test driven the M3. Is the M3 significantly faster/ more powerful, or are these not the only basis on which to compare these two vehicles?

The 335i is a great car but it's no M3. But if you have already dealt and your M3 will be here any day, why concern yourself with these things now?

yes, consider braking, handling, steering responsiveness, feel and precision, consider throttle and engine response, transmission, how flat the car is when taking turns, the fact that it has one of the most advanced LSD's, the different looks (wide body, bigger wheels, much finer leather, etc.).

Ive owned both... my 335i was highly modified and had every possiable bolt-on and the best chip out. It put down 392rwhp so it was faster than my M. It also had kwv2 coilovers etc. but still felt nothing like an M. Two different ball games.

I owned both as well. Had a 335 for 2 years and had no real need to change it. Then I made the mistake of driving the M. I had to get the M. The difference between the two is incredible.

Advskier is right, if you drive both you will figure it out yourself.

Top end, the m3 is way more powerful than a stock 335. But low end, once the turbos are spooled, the 335 has more grunt. The nice thing about the m3, since it has 8 ITB's the throttle response at any RPM is real nice so even in the lows it does have a nice push.

I got it late yesterday after work. I did test drive the M but it has only 300 miles on it so I didn't put it through a work out. For break-in I was told not to exceed 90 mph or rev above 6k,.. so hard to restrain myself. I didn't have to make the split anyway as I was able to work out a deal with my brother (now part owner of the 335i) and now I have both the 335i and the M. Now I love both cars. Although I did want 19's on my M, the dealer couldn't find one in my configuration. Any comments on ride handling between the stock 18's vs 19's. Should I upgrade to the Bmw Stock 19's or just look into an aftermarket wheel if I am upgrading anyway.

I have the 19's, but from everything I've head 18's ride and handle better. Wait until your break-in period is over, and I doubt you'll have any questions as to why you bought the M3. Mine just seems to be getting better as the miles add up.

so funny, I couldn't see dropping almost 60k for a 335.. Instead, I put almost 60k down and financed the 15k!!!!!!! we are all different. Again, I was coming from a 2001 325Ci and I know there is a big difference from a 2001 325Ci coupe and a 2008 335i coupe BUT no way in hell am I dropping $47,000 cash + my 325ci for a 335??? that's retarded. Plus in California, seems like every high school kid drives a 335... lots of nice parents in OC baby!!!

I just did the same thing but I went from a Dinan S2 to an M3. I hadn't appreciated how different the two cars were until I actually drove one.

M3 handles way better, doesn't have the bottom end grunt but once you get it above2500 its making similar torque. Around town where you don't get to rev the M3 out the 335 (espcially a Dinan) is quicker, but there are a thousand different things about the M3 I prefer.

I was trying to think of what I missed from the 335i and I really can't think of anything. They are great cars but I enjoy the M3 much more as a daily driver. For whatever reason it seems smoother to me and the transmission ratios seem better matched to where the car makes power than they do on the 335i.

I know you won't regret the change or miss the 335.

You can really only go so fast on the road. The M does everything better. The M car just feels so much more refined... so much more sophisticated... do much more special. It really isn't in the same league.

The longer you own the car, the more you will understand.

Enjoy it and drive safely.
