Are we at the point of rod bearing paranoia that every thread is about rod bearing failure now?
Since when did it become accepted that every motor will fail at some point? To think every single S65 will fail due to road bearings is absurd. OP: enjoy the car. If your rod bearings go, deal with it then. In the meantime, do regular oil analysis, oil change every 7500 miles or less, and just drive the car and dont worry about it until it happens. Chances are it wont. |

Of course not every engine will grenade from the bearings but to say that it's a complete non issue is just being ignorant. Not everyone has a warranty or have $25k laying around to replace the engine if it happens. It might not be a bad idea to invest the $2-3k to replace them for someone out of warranty just for the peace of mind.

OP, congrats! Looks clean and a manual vert, nice!
Mvy, if I were you, I'd advise people not to waste their money replacing bearings like you did. Yours looked fine and probably could have lasted at least twice as long. Have you seen how bad the bearings need to look before failure? Guys need to chill out on this stuff. Oil analysis? Sure. Replace bearings as the first course of action without any reason? That's crazy talk. |
