Curt2000, you made a wise decision. I tried Francesca in CA when I lost faith in my local dealer in Portland, OR. Same answer: ED MSRP. I decided to contact Dave in MD, and he came through for me, too. I couldn't be more impressed with his service, and I also received a great deal from him that I couldn't pass up. I feel so fortunate to have nabbed one of the last of the NA V8's before they're all gone. Trying to plan out the trip now, but if anyone is in the position I was, don't hesitate to call David (bmwdavid.com).

I'm certainly no expert, but it's my understanding that there are only certain days that you can just bring your car out and drive it.

If I'm mistaken, someone PLEASE correct me before 3/18/13!

That's correct from my experience. Tourist days are the days when you can just show up and drive. I had the same kinda issue when I was there and scheduled my itinerary around getting to the ring.

Looks like the are open 3/17 and closed again until 3/23.

However if you look on their event calendar there is a track day on 3/18:

http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/events...ll-events.html

http://www.skylimitevents.de/events/...rburgring.html

Open track day at the ring sounds nuts!

individual order approved! Now I just have to get my ED date set and I'll be good to go! M3 rates/incentives remained the same in March so that was good news as well.

Nice! I'm sure you won't be wanting to see any pics of my car, right?

Your pics will serve as motivation! Now if we start modding the same way that's when it will get weird.

Some notes:

a) I did Munich-->Lake Constance-->Black Forest-->Strasbourg--> Nurburgring-->Munich.

I drove 1224 miles, spent $637 on gas....

b) Is it worth it to go to Paris? My thoughts are that for a West Coaster, it's much easier to reach Paris than to reach Strasbourg. Eastern France has its own charm...

c) You will need a vignette for Switzerland.

d) From what I hear, Sunday Ring dates are crazy. Try and go to the Ring on a weekday (I went on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday). If you need to convince your wife to go to the Ring, tell her that you can go to Cologne for a day trip. There's also a very nice castle in the area (Burg Eltz).

I have yet to do ED (first one on 4/20), but it really depends on "how you roll". You can make 12 nights cost $12k staying in suites and getting white glove service at every stop, and you can do it on the cheap. In my case, I'm doing it with points and getting most of my trip covered for free.

I moved a bunch of Amex Membership Rewards points to augment my Starwood points, and cashed in a ton of Delta Skymiles. End result: 2 RT first class tickets on Delta @ 300K points JFK-FRA, and 6 of 8 nights paid with 70K Starwood points.

Overnights planned in Munich, Strasbourg, Berlin and Frankfurt, with a couple stops in between (thinking Salzburg, Zurich, Nuremberg and Dresden).

That leaves me with 2 nights I have to pay for in Strasbourg, 8 days of meals and a ton of gas (planning on covering about 1200-1400 miles). If I budget 1k for gas, and meals and entertainment for 2 people @ 250/day, I'm looking at 3K for 8 day, and I'm having a fairly premium experience. And I'm still coming out ahead compared to a US delivery by a small margin I think.

That same trip without points is $6000 for the plane tickets alone, and about $3000 in hotel rooms, and the same $1000 for gas, and $2000 for food and entertainment.

Thanks for replying! My trip may not be quite as luxurious but the more people I talk to the more it sounds like there is plenty to see in Germany so I may just spend a few nights each in Munich/Frankfurt/Berlin and venturing out with the car during the days to various historical or otherwise interesting destinations.
