Service History

Purchased a pre-owned 2009 M3 coupe a few weeks ago. Seller provided most of the serviced receipts but is there a BMW on line site where I could in-put the VIN number to see the complete service history on this vehicle? I asked my local BMW dealer service department to provide this information and they said it was proprietary.

the one you're referring to shows you a list of all options that the car is equipped out of the factory. Service records you have to get through dealership or knows someone who can pull it through the database

Any nice/good service adviser at a dealership will share this information with you.

Some dealers won't give you the paperwork as it has prior owner info. But they should tell you at least.

A dealer can scan the key fob and provide you any service records for services done at a BMW dealership.

Obviously anything done DIY or at an independent shop will not.

THIS. My Dealer provides me with service info (provided it was serviced at a BMW Dealer) but deletes the owner information.

I have bought 4 used BMW's this way.

It’s a sign of good ownership when you get this paperwork along with the car. I keep a folder with all parts and service receipts.

Contrarily, I always seek the same paperwork when I am buying a car. It says a lot about how the owner cared for the car.
