What mode do you prefer for driving with on the highway?

I drove a GTi with DSG tranny and liked how it could be in 6th (top gear) the engine was just 2000 rpms (or whatever) then if I floored the gas it would shift to 3rd (or so) and the engine would be close to it's power peak.

it would seem (IDK) that being in auto mode would be good on the highway since it can shift down several gears at a time (even more since it's a 7-speed), I believe in Manual mode you can only shift down one at a time 7-6-5-4-3 (etc.) is that correct or can you skip down more than one gear with the manual mode?
To be honest, I do enjoy D1 (auto, less aggressive setting) on the highway. But what is nice is having 2 features right there when someone wants to have fun with you. 1. M button is a push away and 2. The kickdown feature. Just tromp the pedal, manually downshift and M-DCT gives you the most performance at that time.

In Manual mode, you can downshift by multiple gears by quickly taping the paddle or shifter the number of times to what gear you want to get too. Example: In 7th, tap the paddle quickly two times, and you are now in 5th.

Thanks.

PS What's you gas mileage so far?
Right now I don't miss having a manual because this operates just the same, except no pushing the clutch pedal. This is just my opinion and there are going to be gobs of folks disagree with me. Both have their place when it comes to personal choice; for me I will never get bored or regret getting M-DCT.

So far I am getting 15.1 mpg and have 250 miles on the car. Trust me, I am not taking it lightly up to 5500 rmps.

The awesome info keeps coming. Thanks so much.

You're gas mileage is much better than others have reported with MT - are you quoting US gallons or Imperial gallons?

Who needs the stereo when you've got that great sounding V8? I think it will be quite a while before he backs to us on that, and I can't blame him.

There have been other threads about the stereo however. Use

You suck! Now I have to put my order in for a DCT and sell my current car. Still not sure about the coupe or sedan. I liked the coupe in pictures, but in person the sedan looked better to me. At least my eternally messed up left ankle will thank me. A few more years of driving stick and I'd be walking like Gregory House.

This sounds great.

You mean you're in Manual mode and in 7th gear (for example) and if you step on the gas then downshift it will go down to whatever gear would put in near the power peak?

glad I ordered the DCT. I'm sure either tranny would be fine in this car, but the DCT does seem to make the car more special and one of the reasons I pick the M3.

This is not new, Mercedes-AMG speedshift's have done this for a couple of years already!!! They can actually skip through several or all gears up or down!!!

Yep... The letter states no pics I am trying to enjoy my last days here prior to flying out on 3 May. Shipping the M3 end of April.

and it is getting better every day. On the way back from my medical appt (about 148 mile trip) I averaged 21.1 mpg cruising at a steady 80 mph. Then I step it up (got sick and tired of people passing me). Cruising between 90-130mph, I was getting 17.9 mpg. Yes, this is US gallons. This entire drive was D1, No EDC/Power and staying still under 5500 rpms.

That's great news - it will be interesting to see if this modifies the ggt. Lucid was lamenting his gas mileage (12 mpg) but I think he was flogging (pushing) it harder than you are and driving on small roads with bursts of speed.

My spelling needs some work....
