I will not get the E92 M3 without the DCT. I suspect the DCT will BLOW AWAY the manual transmission version.

Seven speeds for better use of the power band and torque multiplication, super fast gearchange . . . Being patient will pay huge dividends.

Ill have to wait for the DCT...i wouldnt mind waiting if thats what it takes for them to perfect the system to get the ultimate performance and value from it. ILC32 has a point, id rather wait a extra 3 months for a great system than return back to the dealer countless times to fix issues and bugs.

The tranny we'll probably see as the M-DCT is from Getrag and weighs 78kg (link). Their comparable SMG unit weighs 71 kg so that difference is a mere 15lbs. Probably not the best comparo though as the benchmark is the 6MT (the same one in the 335i, I am fairly sure) which is the ZF type G. No matter where I look I haven't been able to find the weight of this unit (been looking a while as well...). Industry sources have stated the car will be faster with the DCT. The only way it will be faster if it it has a good launch capability. Epacy: take it easy on Fifthstreetz. We all know the Getrag unit will be quite similar to the VW box and inheirent in any DCT design is nearly instantaneous shifts. VW times have been quotes at 8 ms. Since we expect the M-DCT to be better than the VW (Borg-Warner) unit we are in for very fast shifts. Well I guess calling the DCT "pretty much an auto" did deserve some -ing...

Even If I had an SMGII before, I've chosen the manual one (just because I don't want to wait a long time) and I will receive it on October. I plan to change for an M3 Cab in two years and I will see at this stage if a choose M-DCT.

Where did you get that from? The M-DCT option is not even in the dealer's car configuration application. And, as mentioned in my previous post, it will not be available before September 2008; if they encounter some problems, even later.

This info is direct from BMW Park Lane the only BMW owned dealer in UK. Trust me the info is genuine.

My dealer didn't know, so he called BMW Switzerland. As they didn't know either, he called BMW Munich. They (BMW Munich) said it will be offered in June 08 and available 3 months later.

The info about March 08 was just something that all online magazines copied from each other.

Wrong. The information we have is from multiple sources but perhaps best from Scott26, a known BMW insider. He can and does occasionally share unknown information with this board and other boards. He has stated that the plan is to launch the coupe, convertible, 6MT and M-DCT simultaneously here in the US in March 08 and I think by "launch" he meant cars would be available to purchase in March 08.

Given the fact that they're still testing the transmission they're could have been any delay in development!? Only "official" source so far is a UK dealer document which told us that "anticipated production start" for DCT is in March '08.

Who knows, things could go wrong or take longer than expected, so i guess we can hope for a release in March. But from the looks of it that is what BMW has in mind to release everything at once, if it takes longer to perfect the DCT then so be it.

DCT is expected to come with M3 cabrio in Spring 2008 (Europe).
