No E92 press release tomorrow. Sorry.
Curse me if you want. I deserve it.
New info: NO E92 PRESS RELEASE TOMORROW! SORRY. Tomorrow E92 development team meets and closes the development (car & production) case (therefore all the details / answers will be officially known on Jan 17). The car is now ready for production and to be fully promoted. We can expect the PR to be out really soon though. :rocks: Last edited by Tine; 01-16-2006 at 11:49 AM.. |

But I'm not sure US specific specs will be announced in the initial PR since the initial PRs are usually not market specific. Since the development team is closing the case tomorrow, the US 335i version is also developed & chosen. But I'm asured it won't be 3.5L I6 NA petrol engine. |

As I had told some on this forum BMW sales&marketing boss & E92/3 development chief presented the E92 and E93 to BMW management and marketing stuff few days ago in Woodcliff. The cars were European specificied, since US versions were not finished yet.
I've also got the confirmation the US version of 335i would almost 100%ly have different engine specs than European one. The problem are the U/LEV II standards which the new engine (European specified) still does not meet. BMW are to tune the engine further to make it to comply with specific enviromental standards (we are talking about the N54 engine). The plan is to deliver the E92 to US market in the late summer (August / September) 2006. So, US is getting variable twin turbo 3.0L I6 N54 engine after all, but most likely with lower HP / torque output - a detuned version. In purpose to meet the standards. So, let's say 330HP for Europe, ~310HP for US. Unless BMW engineers perform a miracle and find the tweaks how to force European specificied N54 to comply with US standards. Press release will be out soon since the car is now 100% ready, promo material too, text is written ... Only the final editorial tweaks, and - here we go. So any day soon. There is still no D - day scheduled. It's all in the hands of communication department boss to decide when to go out with the PR. But as said - from engineering perspective - it could be any day soon since all is done. But to be clear: non-US specs will be shown in the initial PR. US specs will come with US specific PR later this year. |

no offense but weren't you the one that said the press release would be out in December? And when it didn't come you said Jan. 17? And now that's not happening either?
Kinda seems like you're just stringing us along... |

I'm sometimes just too naive and so I was in those cases. The dates had too do something with E92, but I came to the conclusion too quickly that PR was coming on those dates. My bad. Dec 20 was about closed presentation of E92 in Munich, Jan 17 is the date when development team closes the case (only the US specified engine is still in tuning progress). Even the CEO board will be present at the E92 development case closure (where also full production car will be present) congratulating the development team for the work successfully done, and then flying to Valencia to attend BMW Sauber F1 Team launch. I've learned communication dept. never set a D day in advance. It's only "ASAP when the development case is closed" time frame. When R&D closes the case, marketing department fully gets the case. Communication dept. then do the final editorial on press material, and when project's communication chief & the dept. boss give a command the PR goes out. Now is really the matter of days. Even the mid Dec was the matter of days - for the BMW representatives who attend the meeting on Dec 20. Sorry for inconvenience. I just want to share the info I get with you. |

well thanks for the update. I don't mean to bust your chops but it's just frustrating and it's hard to determine sometimes who really has "sources" that are reliable.
I hope we hear something official soon though. Thanks for your info. |

A detuned 310hp bi-turbo would be just fine, IMO.
I can see the feasibility of a bi-turbo 335 E92. Coupe buyers are more daring, and more interested in performance over luxury/reliability issues. I will be pleasantly surprised -- make that wildly, orgasmically thrilled -- if the bi-turbo 335 is also standard fare for the E90&E91. That will take marketing guts. May the force be with them... |

Yeah, so much for the big on-line party that Mark and Jason were so worried about that they had to go and buy a bunch of geeky heavy duty server stuff for. Looks like we just have to go back to work tomorrow and suffer without the hope that the tedious threads we have all had to put up with lately were about to go obsolete...

They could detune the 3.0liter turbo power plant for the North American market, OR, they could simply just take the 4.0 liter 306 hp V8 from the 540i and put it in the E90 and call it 335i (BMW have stepped away from their 3xx and x.x engine displacement rule in the past)
