GT-R, a league of its own. Love to have one in addition to my M3 though Yes! Porsche GT-3 RS. Then we are talking $150k +. M3 is still my choice for best bang per buck in this high performance league.

I've had a e46 M3 with SMG issues, a 335i with HPFP, and never ending wastegate rattle issues (replaced the turbos twice) and now my e93 M3.. which has been in the shop a total of 4.5 months in the past year. The issues were with the stereo and then the idle control valve but it all stemmed from a leaking top and flooded amplifier. The car could have been fixed easily but my local stealership has a bunch of techs that ride the short bus to work. Opinions should be based on each vehicles attributes, not blanket statements about American cars, or nonsense claims about reliability. M3's are and always have been the benchmark in the segment. It's really up to the owners of the other vehicles to rationalize why they chose not to go with an M3. |

And yes I know, these aren't drag racing cars and 0-60 times are certainly not the best qualifier for comparison, but they're a quick way to gauge overall performance. The ZR1 is still "just" a Corvette, and to me it's overpriced for what you get. There is little justification in choosing it over a GT-R at its price point. The R8 OTOH is a good addition to the list, but in the higher trims (V10) they're going for more like $150k and again, the GT-R will outmatch them for $40k less. |

I had the same problem on my E46 SMG and E92 335i but was a quick and hassle-free fix. Sorry to hear that the BMW's have been more problematic than the Benz. I used to work for the local MB dealership, the problems I saw, I just could not believe.

Ftype is a vert. No thanks.
Used m3 is 55k. Gtr is in another league. At that point i would get a gt3 rs. M3 is a great car for its worth. Its the middle weight champion. Maybe pound for pound too. Its not in the heavy weight category. Even roy jones jr failed at going heavyweight. |

I'll never buy an AWD car as my fun performance car. For me RWD is what makes a car fun to drive. AWD just makes it safer and easier to drive. That's why Audi is never even a consideration for me. Not to mention the numb steering that comes with it. The RS5 would be a great car for my wife though. Same goes for the GTR. I don't care if it goes 0-60 in 1 second. The weight and AWD turns me off completely. The CTS V is just meh. Like others have said, its not special/focused enough. Just a big engine in a sport sedan body.
The closest competitor for me is the C63, but I much prefer a scalpel to a sledgehammer as many magazines describe it. High-revving N/A engines are what really get my attention. When I hear about cars that rev to 9000 rpms...

Sounds like the E9X M3 is an attainable dream car for many of us. Best all around car with arguably the best handling and best steering feedback for cars under $100k.
6 speed Manual trans, one of the best DCT, racing heritage, Track or Daily car, head turner (still is at the final year of its production) and usable rear seats, what's not to love?

Don't forget the base cayman S and boxster S. agree though the C7 takes the cake for best bang for buck available.

I absolutely agree. Some people may even include the IS-F, but since a stock 328i handles better than the IS-F, so it is not even a contender in this league.

I think most people who are looking at sport sedans/coupes rule out 2 seaters altogether for various reasons. Back seats were a requirement when I picked up my car which is ironic considering I have a cage back there now.
