Yeah, all the OEM (every single one in the world...) who use air filters they don't know what they are doing. All of those filter engineers - they don't know squat either. Oh yeah and race cars - nah they don't need filters either...
I'm also quite curious to know how ingestion of more particulate matter necessitates more frequent oil changes? The ingested particulates make it all the way through all of the piston rings and into the wet/lubricated volume of the motor? That can't be good for rings, cylinders, nor the entire inside of the engine (assuming the stuff gets there). Last but not least I vehemently challenge the statement that anything that gets under the hood can get burnt up if ingested. That is pure absurdity. Ever had a spot of oil, lube or even some detailing fluid left under your hood. Also consider spots that produce under hood circulation or low speed/low pressure areas. Look at any of these spots after a few thousand miles (on clean groomed urban roads and freeways) and viola - significant amounts of dust, sand, debris and these absolutely are not combustible. This mod ain't for me, period.

Big +1
Plus changing your oil that often is completely ridiculous and wasteful. If you're willing to gamble a $25k engine by running no filter you might as well skip this very cool looking contraption and just go for a stroker or SC instead and make some serious power. Quote:

love the work FMU puts out there... I first saw them start to change the game @ MFEST III... that 7-series of their is nuts and i'm sure this E9x will be just as nuts!
Got a chance to line-up with the 7-series at the track haha

Given our previous setups, and the previous setups on this specific engine, I'll give you the very wide and not-ballparkish-at-all range of 5-20whp. Once we get 'er on the dyno, we'll see.

The ingestion of more particulate, speaking purely theoretically, means there's a great potential for that particulate to end up part of the blow-by. Since it (again, theoretically) won't be picked up entirely by the PCV system and deposited into the catch can, it'll sit in the oil. That's why we feel it warrants replacement on an accelerated schedule. Again, perhaps my original particulate comment was a bit far-reaching. We will never claim to know as much as (or even half as much as) the engineers who've designed and worked on filters for BMW V8s, but there's one thing we do know -- this open-filter stack system has worked for us for several years now, and it hasn't failed us yet. Yes, yet's the key word, but it also is in "Oh, I haven't gotten into a car accident...yet." Some people end up lucky, some people end up statistics; it's not just like this in the realm of automobilia. It looks great, it sounds mean, it functions correctly. It gets attention. We really couldn't ask for more. Except maybe that clown-nose filter somebody mentioned earlier...

you may have gains sitting still on a dyno, but wont the car be missing all of the forced air from the OEM setup while the car is in motion? Also, I do not remember the technical reasoning but I read that this is not a good engine to use meth on even know many are doing it... but for a show it is awesome

About what I expected from the supplier...

Come on guys, forget the form over function here. Huge downside risk and modest gains. It is like a bunch of trophy wives at a Tiffany store...
