With current technology, seems odd that subs can't 'transfer data' while submerged. Hence, Crimson Tide?

i don't think it's that odd for an early - mid 20 year old to have (and pay for) and m3...

my first 4 cars after college were a brand new 2001 330ci, a brand new 2003 boxster s, a 2k mile 2005 m3, and a 600 mile 2006 cayman s...

then i got married, bought a house, and had a kid...my next 3 cars were a 1997 honda accord, a 2008 mazdaspeed 3, and a 1997 e36 m3 sedan...

now, at 34, i've kinda got my financial feet back under me (long term house, college fund/general savings set up, etc) i'm back in the mix with an e90 m3...i think this pattern is somewhat normal for guys that are car fanatics but at the same time have some semblance of financial responsibility...

29 Submariner. I could care less that i do not work with females. I work while deployed and more money for when I am not working. Traded the Lotus off for a E92 M and have been driving a E46 M since I traded in my Acura in for it 4 years ago. After seeing the world and alot of cars I consider Ms the best value.

Really??? You think the average 20 something can afford a $60k car? Maybe if you have a decent job and live at home with no expenses and put all of your money towards car payments that would be the case. Most early-mid 20 somethings arent even earning $60k a year - how are they supposed to buy an M3?

They hop in line like their parents and become drastically over-extended Americans fueled by excessive, trigger happy lenders looking to make a quick commission. Its the American way...

Here's a question: Can the average anysomething afford an M3? I've driven around quite a bit of the country over the years, and in my experience, unless you're in a more affluent county, you just don't see any BMWs of any kind, let alone M3s. I feel the issue is not so much how old someone is but rather what they do (unless they're trustifarians). If you look at demographics, age is less the barrier to economic well-being than occupation. I know 20-year-olds making six figures and 50-year-olds struggling to pay the electric bill. The difference is in what they do, and what value that has in today's economy.

Indeed. And, meanwhile, German luxuary car makers are happy to feed our consumptive habits.

Well income and house prices always go up? Just appraise your house 80% over market and take out a loan on it to buy three m3s and a john deere with a 25k salary. The american dream come true, leveraged to the teeth

Investment Banker, early 30's. I drive the car twice a week if that - it's a toy.

Even the 335i is hardly driven.

Cars like this are harder to get up here, not as easy as the U.S.

In the end, we're all working for the banks.

I'm 23 and recently graduated, I started my career in economic consulting and am making good money for my age (~70k) with absolutely no expenses (live at home, no debt). However it is still hard for me to swallow the cost of even a USED M3. I've been seeing all these threads about kids just finishing college and expecting to buy an M3 out of college, most of them are just not thinking realistically. Spending a large portion of your salary (assuming you find a half-way decent job) on a depreciation asset is just about the worst thing you can do straight out of college.

Yeah, I think it's safe to assume there are quite a few m3 owners who did not go to college and probably make a fair amount more than those that did go to college. Although the vast majority of owners went to college as that was the smart thing to do ;-)
