Its gorgeous...but if you have even slightly sweaty palms, you'll wear out the alcantara faster than I can eat a peanut butter sandwich (yes, very fast).

A couple of hundreds can fix it in a fab shop

The shop foreman at my local dealer noted that it has been discontinued b/c of lack of sales with the previous generation...love mine though. Of course, that isn't 'official' but a reasonable authority.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it comes out at a grand or less.

As nice feeling and functional as Alcantara is, I'd probably have it replaced once it started looking worn with a combination of smooth and perforated leather. I imagine a good interior upholstery shop could handle that. if so, I definitely want one!

Wish it has an mph readout. I miss heads up when driving the M3......which needs it far more than my 5-Series does.

If nothing else I wish they'd give us a software update that got rid of the unnecessary text in velocity mode of the MFD and just gave us the current speed in larger numbers like in a Porsche.

Once you get used to a large, digital speed readout it's hard going back to trying to read the analog gauge.

few things about the wheel, as far as the harness and installation is concerned it's the same as the old perf steering wheel except for the display obviously. It's not a difficult DYI project either so it's rather fun. However, I'm still partial to the old style vs the new.

also be prepared to take care of the alcantara.

BMW has some pretty creative stuff in the gen 2 wheel for the track oriented customer to make the wheel more accurate and also more user friendly. Be patient, its almost here.
