It's absolutely none of their fucking business about your car. It's registered to you and the registration matches the plates............"now officer, tell me what you pulled me over for, write me a ticket or quit being the gnat on my ass that you're being right now".

I never engage in small talk with ANY of them. Had one pull me last month for not having the front tag on my car. Pulled me out of 75 mph traffic to write it. Told me why he pulled me over and I never said one word to him as he said "our conversation is being recorded".

Problem is, sometimes a bit of small talk will help you. Generally, you know if you're being stopped for something marginal. If so, being the first to be the ass will not serve you well, and that's for certain.

The general rule is a car length for every 10 mph. I don't know if that's how they define it in GA. Sometimes it is at least three seconds behind the car in front. Find out.

So, if she were going 10 mph that's one car length. Then hitting her brakes, well, that's zero car lengths isn't it? And you said you were going 15 - 20 mph when the cop pulled you over -- 2 car lengths or less. At those speeds it would take being right up on her bumper to be tailgating.

I think you should go to court. Finding a good lawyer will help. In fact, many times that will get you off without anything on your record because what they really want (even though they say it's for safety and they know better) is your money for the municipality and all those associated with the court (read lawyers).

Good luck.

Ain't never worked for me and the more you talk the more they have against you in the courtroom.

I'm no smart ass first and foremost. In this case I would politely ask them "what relevence does your line of questioning about cost, date purchased, etc. have to the reason you pulled me over?" the conversation ends right there. If they want to be an ass and write someone a ticket for something petty, let 'em. There are no points involved just a fine..and one
that, if you desire to fight it in court, will be reduced.

I don't suck up to any cop.....but I'm also very respectful to them as well.

I apologize if I implied you were anything but respectful. My point, your advice could be taken by someone with less restraint than yourself, with the unintended result of him/her displaying an aggressively negative attitude towards the officer. The consequences of that are rarely favorable. You are exactly right, in that, until it is clear you are not under suspicion of any violation, it is best to offer no comment, and restrain the ego.

I can't find any information for my state's rules of the road regarding what constitutes following too closely. In fact, I don't see anything that recommends how far back you should be depending on speed. I would think in stop and go traffic, it would be impossible to say anyone was following too close.

I guarantee it is at least one car length, possibly two. I just don't understand going to court over something like this and wasting your counties tax dollars. I know I always leave at least one car length when sitting at a light or in stop and go traffic just in case someone rearends me I won't rearend the person in front of me. Heck in stop and go traffic I normally leave tons of car lengths so I don't have to use the clutch as often.

Think it would be pretty easy to point out that the car in front of you was acting erratically through the intersection, and point out that your distance from the car in front of you was being controlled more from her actions than yours...

It almost sounds like an insurance setup.

if you passed him, you would have gotten a speeding ticket, so you get "too close" ticket. This just encourages speeding.

I wonder if new cop cars can catch up with us... jk. DONT TRY.

I was in "sarcasm" mode. "to enslave and punish" or "to serve and collect" describes the police force pretty well.
